You were born in 1964:
Your father was born around 1911–1912.
Your mother was born around 1921–1922.
Your father was born only about 46–47 years after slavery officially ended.
Your mother was born only about 56–57 years afterward.
Depending on how old their parents were:
Some of your grandparents could have been born during slavery or shortly after emancipation.
Your great-grandparents were very likely alive during slavery.
Therefore, enslaved ancestors may be only two or three grandparent levels above you.
So for you, slavery isn’t remotely distant—it may reach your family through your grandparents’ parents, and possibly even through an older grandparent. See less

The SFJC National Contractors Alliance
Founding Principle
The Alliance was formed on a single observation: trades are divided by specialty but united by obstacle. An electrician in Georgia and a concrete contractor in Texas do not share a scope of work, but they share the same five barriers — licensure across state lines, bonding and insurance capacity, getting paid, finding qualified labor, and qualifying for larger contracts. The Alliance is organized around those shared obstacles first, and around trade specialty second.
