Anne lister (Gentleman Jack) was born on this day (3rd April) 1791 to Captain Jeremy Lister (1753-1836) and Rebecca Battle (1770 - 1817) and was one of six children
°
In 1805 while attending school in York at Kings Manor, she formed a relationship with fellow school friend Eliza Raine. The first sentence in Anne's earliest diary simply says "Eliza left us"
°
In 1826 upon the death of her uncle Anne inherited Shibden Estate, ten years later in 1836 upon the death of her father she not only inherited his and her uncles income, but also inherited money from their agricultural tenancy, properties in Halifax and shares in the canal, railway, mining and stone quarry industry. Her wealth allowed her the freedom to live as she pleased.
°
In 1812 Anne met Mariana Belcombe and the two started a relationship, in 1816 however following social expectations Mariana married Charles Lawton who was 19 years her senior, this did not stop Anne's and Mariana's from still having a romantic relationship together.
°
In the early 1830s Anne formed a relationship with Anne Walker who had become a wealthy heiress in 1832. The two women took holy Communion on the 30th March 1834 in Holy Trinity Church, York and considered themselves married there after.
°
The couple lived at Shibden and often traveled together until Anne's death on 22nd September 1840
°
She was later laid to rest at Halifax Minster on 29th April 1841
°
Today Anne is remembered for being the "first modern lesbian", a diarist and a landowner

Tomorrow's video is going to be briefly talking about The Other Bennett Sister, in particular about the self care and hygiene practices that are portrayed in the series so far mostly because I like what they've shown
°
Pic 2. Is Mary having a bath in her chemise (episode 1)
Pic 3. Mary washing her hairy underarms (episode 2)
Pic 4. Mary having a natural ingredients face mask (episode 4)
°
These are little things, but part of life that we do everyday and it's nice to see it portrayed in a period drama 🙂

The two met at Roe Head School, Mirfield and stayed friends until Charlotte's death in 1855, with Charlotte sending money to her friend when she emigrated to New Zealand.

WW2 related locations and items I saw while visiting Berlin in December
°
While in Berlin I of course visited a few museums, and one of those museums was Berlin Story Bunker (image 1) which goes through the rise and fall of Hitler and the Nazi Party, covering events that most history books never mention. If you are interested in the second world war it is a museum I would recommend you visit, make sure you take breaks though, it's a lot of information and you can easily spend hours in the museum without realizing it.
°
(Image 2) Is a memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe
(Image 3) Memorial to May 10th 1933 Nazi book burning
(Image 4) The remains of Anhalter Bahnhof train station
(Image 5-7) Are a few WW2 archaeological items found in the city center that showcase the war years and the terror of the Nazi period.
These are on display at the Neues Museum, Berlin
°
These are just a few of the WW2 things I saw in the short time I was in Berlin.
The second world war is a period of history that I like learning about, so I am grateful I got to learn more about the period from this time from the German side.

Winston Churchill's War Rooms, London
°
In 1940 Winston Churchill became prime minister of Great Britain after Neville Chamberlain stepped down.
Although Churchill was out of touch with the general public, his inspiring speeches and his background in military affairs made him the perfect candidate for a war time leader.
°
The war bunker was built in 1938 and became operational in 1939, and it was here that Churchill spent a lot of his time. Learning about the outcomes of the war from battles won and lost, how many lives were lost during air raids, and what Hitler planned on doing next.
°
In 1945 when the war came to an end, the bunker was sealed off, preserving everything as it was like a large time capsule. Including RAF Wing Commander John Heagerty's sugar cubes.
In the late 1970s the war bunker became part of the imperial war museum's collection/sites.
The bunker was then reopened to the public in 1984 and in 2005 they added the Churchill museum, where you can learn all about his life and his time as war prime minister.

Anhalter Bahnhof
°
Constructed in 1841 - 1959
This train station was built on the outskirts of Berlin, and was regarded as Berlin's "Gateway to the South".
°
It was the start and end point for the Berlin-Anhalt railway company.
°
After the second world war and Berlin became a divided city, the station became less important and was ultimately closed on 18th May 1959. Although the building had protection status since the 1930s the station was demolished in 1959, except for the portico which was preserved and later refurbished between 2003 and 2005.
°
The remains of this station not only tell its history when it was functioning, but also tells the story of people who want to both destroy history and those who want to preserve it.

Air raid shelters
°
In 1939 - 1945 Britain went to war against Germany
°
One of the many things the government put in place to protect its people were air raid shelters. (Though it came at a cost, and of course class systems were put in place.)
°
People were given options depending on their living situation and location. You had Anderson shelters which you placed in your garden partly submerged into the ground (picture 1), Morrison shelters which were metal boxes that you had inside your home, and would simply craw into once the sirens went off (picture 2) there were public shelters both above ground, which people didn't like nor did they feel safe inside them, and submerged public shelters (pictures 3&4) there was of course various military shelters that are still scattered around the country, with some now been turned into museums.
°
In 1940 - 1941 London was heavily bombarded by German bomber planes, which devastated the city, but during the nightly raids on the city civilians flocked to any form of shelter they could find, with the most obvious choice being, the London Underground.
°
At first the government forbade anyone using the underground as a shelter in order to keep trains running, and pointing instead to the newly built above ground shelters. So people bought tickets to use the "trains", still the government tried to crack down on people using the underground as a shelter, in the end the survival instinct of the civilian out weighted the governments objections, and now you cannot think of the blitz without thinking of people using the underground to shelter in. (Picture 5)

During the Victorian era it was common practice to keep the hair of your loved ones who had died, and this was no different for the Brontës.
°
At the Brontë parsonage museum, they have a vast collection of Brontë objects and memorabilia, which also includes samples of their hair.
°
1. A sample of Charlotte Brontës hair
2. Emily Brontës hair, that has been plaited and made into a necklace
3. Anne Brontës hair contained in a Brooch belonging to Charlotte
°
Out of the Brontë children, Charlotte was the last to die, dying at the age of 38 on the 31st March 1855.
°
But as she saw each of her siblings disappear before her, she of course kept personal items and locks of her siblings hair, when it was her turn to go, Patrick did the same thing and kept a sample of Charlotte's hair.
