Sixteen years ago, when I first fell in love with makeup, collaborating with MAC felt like an impossible dream…something I admired from afar but never imagined would one day become my reality.
My very first MAC lipstick was Snob. I bought it at Scarborough Town Centre with my best friend, Natalie. I still remember how excited I was.
My second was Kinda Sexy. I bought it for $10 at the MAC Warehouse Sale after my coworker Bhagany (whose parents worked at the MAC factory) gave me tickets. At the time, I was working at a bank, and walking into that warehouse felt like walking into heaven.
Then came Flat Out Fabulous, All Fired Up, and Diva. I’d sneak away during my lunch breaks to the MAC store, where I’d spend my time learning makeup techniques from the artists. Somehow, I always managed to leave with another lipstick.
One day, I wore Ruby Woo : a bold red to work, and my boss (literally named Karen) told me it was “too bold” for the workplace. So the next day, I showed up wearing Heroine, a bright purple. Later that year, I quit my job wearing Candy Yum Yum. I told Karen I was going to apply for a job at MAC. She responded with a smile “good luck… Frank and Frank (the literal founders of MAC Cosmetics) are our personal friends! We had dinner with them last week!” My heart sank. The next day I applied to every MAC store in Toronto.
Those lipsticks became so much more than makeup. They’re actually the reason I started posting as GLAMZILLA. Every day, I’d share my Lipstick of the Day and style it with a matching Outfit of the Day. I had no idea those little posts would eventually lead me here.
And now… MAC x GLAMZILLA exists.
Even writing those words feels surreal. This collaboration isn’t just another launch… it’s the closing of a beautiful circle that started with one MAC lipstick.
