In the current cost of living crisis, I got nostalgic and envious of fast food prices (Hungry Jacks) of yesteryear, 1999.

I had considered providing comparisons of 2026 equivalent offers but the offers in the photo below were (like they all usually are) "limited offers."

That is, unless Hungry Jacks currently has a "2 Whoppers with cheese" offer, it would not be a fair or accurate pricing comparison.

However, I Googled 1999 and 2026 Australian Hungry Jacks outlets prices just to show (no surprise) how much inflation has occurred over 27 years, for the two following burger types:

Whopper with cheese, during 1999 AUD $2.95 - $3.45 and of 2026 AUD $11.75.

Bacon deluxe, during 1999 AUD $3.50 - $3.95 and of 2026 AUD $12.85.

Flash back to 1998. One of my previously owned vehicles, I copped a speeding fine of AUD $105.00.

In the grand scheme of things, it was not the end of the world.

However, fast forward to 2026, in Australia's current cost of living crisis, $105.00 could go a long way towards some groceries, topping up petrol for your car or for a utility bill instead.

This was a photocopy of one of my birthday invitations. (I have concealed a guest's name and my RSVP contact details for privacy.)

The Jet Lounge no longer exists. At 189 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy at the time of this post, the business there is now known as Archie's all day. The tag-line on their IG page says "Brunch & good vibes all day."

In one of my previous jobs, they also had staff that were volunteers. One of those volunteers, at the time, was Alice. She was enamoured with my use of puns whenever we had a chat. She chose to give me printouts of pun-based content. Sadly Alice passed away during my tenure whilst I was employed there. However, her memories will live on, whenever I have a re-read of these pages. (They have seen better days, with one page featured a coffee cup ring stain.) ☕️🫖

Feeling flat? I sure had, on 8th January 2026. Whilst I was parked along the street of my dad's home address, a neighbour noticed one of my tyres was flat. (Rear left-side.)
They kindly alerted me to this fact before they drove on beside my location.
In Victoria, the Australian state I live in we have a membership service called RACV roadside assistance.
Was I ever grateful that my membership was current that day!
