Born on this day in 1925 in West Plains, Missouri, Dick Van Dyke turns 100, a full century of charm, comedy, music, and pure screen magic.
To Disney fans, he'll forever be Bert in Mary Poppins
(1964) a performance that helped make the film timeless, and even earned him a Grammy Award for Mary Poppins.
His Disney legacy also includes Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N., Never a Dull Moment, and Dick Tracy (released under Disney's Touchstone label). He also hosted Disney TV favorites like Donald Duck's 50th Birthday and narrated Walt: The Man Behind the Myth.
One especially historic Disney moment: Dick served as narrator for Disneyland's Candlelight Processional in December 1965, the final Candlelight ceremony attended by Walt Disney himself.
And beyond Disney, the world also knows him as Rob Petrie (The Dick Van Dyke Show), Caractacus Potts (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), and Dr. Mark Sloan (Diagnosis: Murder). Few entertainers have meant so much to so many generations.
