I'm afraid my content would be considered kid-friendly despite it featuring machinery and tools children shouldn't be using and being aimed at/made for a pg 16 audience and up. I'd hate to have to keep all my tutorials behind a pay wall on Patreon because I really do like sharing knowledge and helping others with their cosplay ventures. But continuing to upload them to YouTube wouldn't be something I could do. The ad revenue (as little as I make) does make all the difference--it helps pays for supplies and the monthly fee of the programs used to edit the videos.

Also please suggest any other video platforms that allows for monetization early on! I want to consider all options to keep these view-able to the public for free before settling on just Patreon (if things around this rule don't change).


If you haven't heard (but I'm sure you had) YouTube is imposing some strict rules that label pretty much everything as kid-friendly content whether or not you're actually making content for kids. You can totally just be making content for adults but if YouTube or the FTC feels like labeling it "for kids" then you not only get punished on YouTube with demonetization or losing your channel, but a $42,530 fine! For each video.. So if you want to keep a lot of your favorite YouTubers from leaving or moving behind a pay wall on other platforms, sign and share this petition. And go b*tch to YouTube via social media and emails please. Even your local govt, if you live in America. Try to get some rules changed! :D

I should also note people have mentioned how these rules can be negative for kids as well. It means less kid content while kids still use the platform.. Meaning they'll be viewing more content not necessarily kid-friendly. And the potential for non-kid friendly ads. There's more out there written by other creators. But I don't have a kid and don't have any interest in making videos for them, so this is a bit out of my zone of knowledge.

I've put up a lot of new templates on my Storenvy and Etsy recently. Some of the listings there don't have a video (yet) and will have a build guide instead. I hope to cosplay all these someday and make videos for them in the future, but for now I've just got the templates made.
