The Colors of Time: How Collective Effort Paints the Canvas of History
For centuries, the human experience was bound by the limits of language. Before the vivid tapestry of our modern era could be fully realized, the world was described mostly by words and simple notations. We recorded our triumphs and tragedies in stark black and white—a pure, simple, but ultimately limited translation of a complex reality. The world we imagined was vast and novel, but we only had a few words to talk about it.
So, how do we transition from a world of mere notation to a vibrant, living history? The answer lies in the collective gathering of colors.
Gathering the Paints
The colorful world of history is not crafted by a single hand. Instead, it only comes to life when the raw colors of the paints are collected by a vast array of people. Every individual—through their unique experiences, daily labors, and cultural expressions—acts as a pigment gatherer.
• The scientists and engineers discover the deep blues of logic and structure.
• The philosophers and writers extract the rich reds of human emotion and ethics.
• The everyday workers and dreamers provide the vibrant yellows of perseverance and hope.
Individually, a single pigment might seem like a mere speck of dust. But once these colors are painstakingly collected by the masses, the true work can begin.
The Artists of Eras
With the paints finally gathered, the "artists" of our timeline—the innovators, the creators, the historians, and the visionaries—can dip their brushes into this collective well. They use these gathered colors to express the representation of their era.
Through their synthesis, a colorful world is stored and preserved throughout history. We no longer just read about what happened; we feel it, see it, and experience the rich hues of human existence. The history we leave behind becomes a vivid mural rather than a dry ledger.
The Power of "Little Tools"
Yet, as we strive to paint this masterpiece, we face a harsh reality: we are limited by our time. No single person lives long enough to gather all the paints, design the mural, and execute the final brushstrokes.
Because our individual time is fleeting, our greatest strategy is to build little tools.
These tools are our incremental contributions. They are the small algorithms, the foundational theories, the community initiatives, and the localized works of art we leave behind. When we accept our time limits, we realize that we don't need to paint the whole picture ourselves. We just need to build a better brush, mix a new shade of color, or construct a stronger scaffold for the next generation.
An Unprecedented Canvas
Hopefully, and inevitably, these little tools and small contributions begin to co-work together. The isolated efforts of millions intertwine.
When this happens, the world we once imagined—a world so pure, so simple, and so novel that we could previously only hint at it with a few inadequate words—finally comes into view. It is presented in an unprecedented way. It becomes a reality brighter and more intricate than anything our ancestors could have sketched out in their simple notations.
The canvas of history is ongoing. And as long as we keep gathering the colors and building our little tools, the masterpiece will never cease to grow.

As someone who is always testing the limits of AI pipelines on this channel, the computer graphics concepts they unpacked absolutely blew my mind:
🔥 Cracking the Hard-Surface Problem: AI has always struggled with sharp edges on armor or weapons. Now, they are finally generating clean, manufactured-looking geometry. They even shipped a quad-remesher that turns a messy 1-million-face model into clean 5k quad faces, ready for rigging and subdivision!
🔥 Gaussian Splatting vs. Traditional Mesh: The absolute highlight of the video! Ethan points out that while Gaussian Splatting is incredibly fast for rendering and appearance, it’s a nightmare to extract a clean mesh from. For the next 5-10 years, traditional Meshes will remain the undisputed king of game engines (for UV wrapping, rigging, and lighting).
The boldest claim? Ethan predicts 3D generation will reach 2D "Flux-level" quality within the next 12 months!
