Happy Monday and we hope everyone has a weekend of good running! One of our athletes has certainly had a good week of running with relays midweek and then the Penistone 10k on Sunday.
Heather used the advice we gave her on how to attack a hilly 10k on a very warm day. Her efforts and application meant she performed superbly finishing 2nd in her age category.
So the individual advice given to Heather to suit the kind of runner she is was to use her heart rate for the first half of the race, keeping it controlled and not to exceed zone 3. This meant she was still feeling relatively relaxed going into the second half. This part of the course, had several climbs and can quite easily force you to work too hard leaving fatigue for the second half of the race. Then she was advised to push the effort into zone 4 and beyond on the second half of the race which has one steep downhill that Heather excels at and then flat.
This advice worked well for Heather. Whenever we give advice it is always with the individual in mind and never generic as every runner is different. However, there is some advice on racing that is sensible for all and that is also taken into consideration.
If you're interested in coaching to work towards your goals then please get in touch. We only take on a few athletes each year to grow steadily and allow us to give that personal approach.

It's very frustrating that this shoe seems to be unavailable in a UK Size 10, apart from on Spiv resale platforms.
If anyone knows of anyone looking to get rid of a pair, ideally unused but would consider used, let me know below.

The 9th anniversary of my one and only Ultra. Multiple laps of a trail near Dover to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.
The race started at 7.30am after a prayer from an army chaplain and the blowing of a whistle to send us on our way. Very evocative.
Pleased to clock under 10m/m for a second place finish.

All checked in and ready for tomorrow's Pulsford 10K. Will I manage a Sub 40 this time? Let's see.
If you're out on course supporting and see this kit with me inside it, if you could film a clip that would be great.

Regular viewers of our channel will know that we like to throw in a few interesting history facts into our running content. We have also decided to start a channel devoted to walking and running historic trails and paths. This is the first video on that channel. It may be of interest to some of you, but if it's purely running content you're after please ignore!
But we thought it might appeal to some of you.
