On November 1, The Boys and Girls Club kicked off their inaugural Teen Hike at Killens Pond with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware — an enjoyable 3 miles filled with teamwork and discovery.
This initiative began as a simple idea: to connect Boys and Girls Club of Delaware teens with the outdoors in a meaningful way — promoting physical activity, reflection, teamwork, and learning. With the incredible leadership and partnership of the Boys & Girls Club (#BoysAndGirlsClubs), notably John Tucker and Dr. Tyrone Friend – and the generous support from sponsors - Dr. Pat Smith (#HolmesSmithConsulting), Miranda Higdon (Parents and Guardians College Planning Conference), and Patrick Smith, (#HHLogistics), the day became much more than a hike. Teens participated in team-building exercises, a wildlife scavenger hunt, and capped it off with s’mores by the bonfire.
As a volunteer and sponsor, we were grateful for the opportunity to support the teens on this hike, using the beautiful fall setting as a meaningful space for teamwork, confidence-building, and exploration. We’re thankful to everyone who helped make the outing a success, and we’re proud to contribute to experiences that empower young people and strengthen our community.

Thursday afternoon, our team volunteered at Carpenter’s Shelter, serving a warm lunch to adults and kids in the community. We brought 12 pizzas, fresh salad fixings, a case of soda, and a full tray of cookies—and together, we served nearly 25 people.
From assembling salads on-site to handing out meals with a smile, our team was grateful for the chance to support an organization doing incredible work, especially during the holiday season.
