Born in 1953, Andreas Vollenweider grew up in a creative family as the son of organist and composer Hans Vollenweider. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, he discovered the harp in 1975 and, seeking greater creative freedom, developed his own playing technique and the electro-acoustic harp.
