Praised by The Washington Post as ‘a deeply gifted musician’ with ‘an exceptional sense of lyricism’ and ‘near-flawless technique’, cellist Hee-Young Lim has established herself as one of the most captivating and swiftly rising stars of her generation.
Her debut album with the London Symphony Orchestra was received with great critical acclaim, ‘exceptionally refined, silkily lyrical sound’ (Gramophone Magazine), ‘Lim outshines her contemporaries in the warmth of expressiveness of her tone, which is of truly rare beauty’ (BBC Music Magazine).
Hee-Young currently serves as Professor of Cello at the Beijing Central Conservatory. Prior to this appointment, she was the principal cellist with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, serving under its music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In December 2018, Hee-Young was awarded the Prime Minister’s Commendation from the Korean Ministry of Culture.

I'm thrilled to announce the release of my new album "Estrellita" on Orchid Classics! 🎶 This album is a collection of my favorite encore pieces by composers such as Saint-Saëns, Liszt, Debussy, Kreisler, Ravel, Amy Beach, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, and more. 🎵
As I curated the tracklist, I reflected on the encore pieces that have always held a special place in my heart. Many of these pieces were originally written for piano, violin, or voice. I've always wondered how the cello could bring these beautiful pieces to life. This was recorded in the middle of pandemic in 2021 at the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts. During the covid pandemic, I finally had the time to explore new possibilities and experiment with arrangements that would best honor the cello. 🎻
This experience has been incredibly transformative for me as a cellist. It has allowed me to grow and learn even more, while also bringing me back to my roots and reminding me why I fell in love with the cello in the first place. The unique timbre of the cello is both soulful and powerful, and I hope that through this album, you will experience a wide spectrum of emotions and find inspiration. 🥰🥰🥰

떨어지는 낙엽과 점점 추워지는 날씨에 가을이 가고 벌써 겨울이 성큼 다가오는 것 같네요.
완연한 겨울이 찾아오기 전 얼마 남지 않은
깊어가는 늦가을의 끝자락과 겨울의 시작이 공존하는 11월의 정취를 첼로와 함께 즐겨보시기 바래요🙏
저는 개인적으로 올해 늑골과 어깨뼈가 부러지는 사고를 겪으며 첼로를 6개월 쉬다 첼로를 다시 잡은지 이제 석달 되어가요. 2년전부터 시작된 코로나로 연주활동도 많이 못하고, 예기치않은 사고로 올해도 연주로 찾아뵙지 못해서 아쉽지만 건강을 회복하는 과정 중에 두 장의 음반과 영상으로 오랜만에 인사드릴 수 있게 되어 감사해요.
앞으로 소식 더 공유할께요. 항상 건강하세요🙏

在这深沉的秋末和临近的初冬所共存的十一月，希望悠扬的大提之声能够一直陪伴着您💕
因个人的伤病，从休息到重拾大提这之间也经历了半年的时间，再加上受到疫情的影响，很多演出被取消，所以今年也没能有机会和各位相见。虽然很遗憾，但在恢复健康的过程中，我想通过两张唱片和视频与大家见面，在感谢大家对我的支持和喜爱的同时，也为现在积极抗疫工作者们送上我的一点小温暖🙏🙏🙏

long time no see.
How time flies!
With Autumn leaves falling and the weather getting colder, winter is just around the corner.
At this time of transition, I hope the melodious voice of the cello can provide warmth, light and comfort.
I recently broke my collar bone in an accident, which made it impossible for me to play the cello for several months. It took half a year to recover and this combined with pandemic cancellations meant that sadly I did not have the opportunity to meet you in person this year. In the process of recovering my health, I recorded two new albums and made videos to share my passion and love for music with you and it was wonderful to be able to pick up the cello again as part of my own healing process. I now want to share this all with you. I send you my warmest greetings and thank everyone for your support and love.
