Over the past six months - yes, that’s how long it’s been - things have changed a lot. I knew from the moment I got into the car to drive home after saying my goodbyes to Mojo, the vibe in this household would change. I didn’t anticipate however, the type of effect it would have, and just how much of an influence Mojo’s personality had on the smallest girl in the house: Venus.

Venus joined us 2018, she learnt to live life alongside Mojo. Though I knew the importance of solo walks and individual training, which I implemented on a daily basis, Mojo and Venus developed a very strong bond, and a good one at that. I believe it’s due to those important one to one interactions, that they could also easily spend their time apart without issue, but they coexisted so well and slept curled up together every single night.

When Mojo passed, Venus no longer had that companion by her side, so she’s spent every night in bed with Hunter and I ever since. For a week or so, she didn’t want to get up, but soon she would initiate play in the mornings, with me, with her son. Things she hadn’t done all that much with other dogs around during Mojo’s final year or so. And then it dawned on me, Venus must have held back with her antics, because Mojo’d gotten feistier as her arthritis and pain inevitably worsened as the years went on. Mojo’d lashed out a number of times, and Venus being the smallest and most sensitive always took the brunt.

My heart broke seeing her light up those first few mornings, but I soon began to like spending half an hour watching the dogs play, all of us still half asleep. It’s helped me heal, it’s helped us all heal. And since then, play has been the most important form of entertainment in this household. And I think that’s beautiful in its own way.

Today's video was accidentally uploaded at 7.30 AM instead of PM, whoops! We live in the Netherlands and are used to military time, and despite me knowing the difference, I can easily misclick.
