Silver Screen Serials

I recently posted The Lone Ranger 1938 full serial and got a stream of abusive text from ERIC STEDMAN of Serial Squadron that is was his unfortunately YouTube gave me a copyright strike. As far as i was concerned its PD and here is the actual truthFor the 1938 Republic serial The Lone Ranger, my safest answer is no — do not treat it as clean public domain for upload/resale purposes.
One detailed Republic-rights index says the serial itself shows “no renewal” for the 1938 motion-picture registration. But the same source also says early home-video copies were not authorized by Wrather, that the rights later moved to Universal Pictures, and that Serial Squadron’s releases were not authorized either. So there you have pirates do exist

🌌 Flash Gordon’s Trip to Mars (1938) — Early Sci-Fi that Inspired a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Before Star Wars ever ignited lightsabers across the screen, Flash Gordon’s Trip to Mars blazed the trail for cinematic space adventure. Released in 1938 by Universal Pictures, this 15-chapter serial transported audiences beyond Earth with bold rocket ships, ray guns, and tyrannical villains long before digital effects existed.

The film’s miniatures, matte paintings, and theatrical lightning effects were groundbreaking for their day—created through practical ingenuity rather than technology. Director Ford Beebe and his team crafted alien landscapes from painted backdrops and dry-ice smoke, inspiring a visual vocabulary that George Lucas later cited as a key influence on Star Wars.

From Ming the Merciless to Queen Azura, Flash Gordon’s world of interplanetary empires, daring rescues, and cliffhanger endings became the blueprint for modern space opera. Even the opening crawl, heroic theme music, and serial storytelling structure of Star Wars owe their roots to Flash’s adventures among the stars.

Restored in 4K, Flash Gordon’s Trip to Mars now lets viewers experience the thrilling imagination that helped launch an entire genre — the original spark that led to hyperspace.
