We’re excited to share that we’re rolling out some new features and visual updates ✨

YouTube should feel as vibrant and dynamic as the creators and videos on it, so we’re matching the look of our interface to the energy of our content.

Here’s a look at some of the updates you’ll start to see this week:

▶️ We’re launching a cleaner and more immersive video player across mobile, web, and TV devices. This includes updated controls and new icons to make the viewing experience more visually satisfying while obscuring less content.

⏩ We’ve updated the double-tap to skip feature to make it more modern and less intrusive to your video watching experience.

💫 When you’re on your mobile device, you’ll notice a more seamless experience as you move between tabs with improved motion design.

👍 On select videos, the like button animation will receive a custom, dynamic visual treatment based on the content you are viewing. For instance, liking a music video will trigger an animated musical note and sports videos include a visual cue from the game.

🔽 Saving videos to your Watch Later list or adding them to playlists is now smoother and more visual. The refreshed design simplifies the process and makes saving a video easier.

🗨️ We’re making it easier to follow conversations by introducing a structured system for comment replies. This threading system is designed to provide a more focused reading experience within the replies panel.

We’re expanding existing benefits to Shorts as well, giving you new ways to keep enjoying them, even when browsing or offline.


1️⃣ Shorts Smart Downloads: Automatically download your favorite Shorts based on your previous watch history, so you always have something new to watch – no action required from you. Hi everyone!

We have an update on our conversational AI tool.

In June, we announced that our conversational AI tool would be expanding to some non-Premium users in the US. Now, we’re excited to share that the conversational AI tool is available to all US users (18+, in English-only). If you’re eligible to use it, you’ll see an “✨Ask” button below videos.

We've heard positive feedback about the tool since introducing it to Premium members. They've been using it to get more info about the videos they're watching, get recommendations for other content, and more. On select academic videos, it also lets users ask questions to strengthen their understanding of key concepts, and even quiz their knowledge.
