What stopped EDM from getting an international hit like it used to get earlier?
My opinion - nowadays, EDM is expanding with so many styles but as of getting huge, it is getting complex as well. The complexity ain't reaching everybody's mind and soul. Earlier everyone felt an attachment to songs but now this attachment is lacking in songs. Avicii, David Guetta, Martin, Hardwell, SHM etc. were getting international hits. If you think earlier Progressive House was the trend and that genre itself was too emotional, it is attached to many people out there. But bro don't you remember Skrillex?? who won a Grammy for his album ( Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites ) which includes Dubstep and Electro House. It was complex and ahead of its time. How did it manage to reach a massive audience?
Something is missing in today's music that people need to figure out.
