Finished my first Riley Sager book - Home Before Dark 📚
I went in expecting full-on haunted house horror, but it leaned more toward thriller and I honestly struggled to get through it 👻 Just not my kind of story this time around.
Have you read it? What did you think?

🌟Book Review: The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
I can see why The Bell Jar is considered a modern classic - it’s a deeply personal and unique reflection of its time, and there’s no denying the emotional weight behind Plath’s writing. There were rare moments that made me pause and reflect, but overall, I struggled with this book.
It nearly pushed me into a reading slump. I had previously DNF’d it and picked it up again hoping I’d connect with it more the second time around - unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Perhaps it just found me at the wrong moment, or maybe the themes of depression and suicide are ones I find particularly difficult to engage with.
Either way, finishing it felt more like a challenge than a journey.
I didn’t enjoy the reading experience, and I was honestly relieved when it was over. That said, I’m still glad I read it - if only to understand why it resonates with others and holds such a place in literary history. While it’s a book that may speak to many, it didn’t speak to me.

🌟 Book Review: Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa
I enjoyed this book - not because it was groundbreaking, but because it felt like the perfect cozy read for an autumn evening, especially if you're into quiet, bookish stories. There are some interesting references to Japanese literature throughout, which added to the charm.
What stood out most to me was the ending. From the first page, I had no idea it would go in that direction, and I love that about Japanese literature in general. With Western books, I often find myself predicting the plot, but Japanese storytelling follows a different rhythm and logic. It often leaves me thinking, “Oh… that’s what this was really about?”- and I mean that in the best way.
If you’re not expecting a fast-paced plot and you’re in the mood for something gentle and introspective, Days at the Morisaki Bookshop is a lovely little escape.

Here Are My Thoughts on Once There Were Wolves 🐺🌲
I honestly felt like this was such a unique read - atmospheric, haunting, and beautifully written. It completely pulled me into the wild, and I’ll definitely be reading other books by Charlotte McConaghy. 🤍✨

🌟Book Review: If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
I can’t say I disliked If We Were Villains, but I definitely struggled to finish it. The premise intrigued me - an acting school filled with Shakespearean drama, intense characters, and mysterious twists - but the story didn’t quite grip me in the way I had hoped.
While I do appreciate the artsy, intellectual atmosphere of the book, especially with its references to Shakespeare, something about the story just didn’t get under my skin. The slow pacing and the sense of foreboding that builds throughout were compelling in their own way, but I found myself drifting in and out of interest. For those who enjoy slower-paced reads filled with mystery, drama, and psychological tension, I think this book could still be a good fit.
That being said, I do not regret reading it. The writing is beautiful, and the complexity of the characters is undeniable. But I have to admit, when I turned the last page, I was hit with a thought: I’m so glad it’s over. The haunting and disturbing undertones left me feeling more relieved than satisfied, though I can see how others might find the tension gripping.
In the end, If We Were Villains might be a hidden gem for fans of literary thrillers and slow-burn mysteries, but for me, it wasn’t the right fit.

💕📚 I’ll be reading all of these authors for the first time - except for Colleen Hoover. But since Verity isn’t her usual romance style, I’m counting it as a brand-new reading experience too ✨
