Benjamin Guinness, grandson of the legendary Arthur Guinness, purchased and redesigned this building, combining two buildings into one.

Iveagh House on Saint Stephen's Green served as the Guinness Family's Dublin City residence from 1862 until 1939, when it was donated to the state by his grandson, Rupert Guinness.

It is now the Department of Foreign Affairs. It is a beautiful building both inside and out. Standing out from everything around it.

If you've watched the series The House of Guinness on Netflix, then you'll know the Iveagh House makes several appearances. The actual exterior was filmed for the show.

My novella 'The Forgotten Prince: An Invasion Island Story' reached #6 on Amazon Best Sellers in Ireland in the War & Military Action Fiction Genre.

Being ahead of a box set by George R.R. Martin and books by J.R.R. Tolkien and Bernard Cornwell really blew me away.

🧙‍♀️ Dame Alice Kyteler — Ireland’s First Recorded Witch Trial (1324)

Dame Alice Kyteler was a wealthy merchant’s daughter from Kilkenny, born around 1260 into a family of Flemish origin. Over her lifetime, she married four times — to William Outlaw, Adam le Blund, Richard de Valle, and finally Sir John le Poer — each marriage bringing her greater wealth and influence.

In 1324, following the death of her fourth husband, members of her previous families accused her of sorcery, heresy, and poisoning. The case was taken up by Richard de Ledrede, Bishop of Ossory, who pursued the matter with determination. Alice was charged with denying the faith of Christ and the Church, performing sacrifices to demons, making potions and spells, and keeping a familiar spirit said to be called “Robin Artisson.”

Her son, William Outlaw Jr., and several servants were also accused. Under torture, her servant Petronilla de Meath confessed and implicated Alice. Petronilla was later burned at the stake on 3 November 1324, the first recorded execution for heresy in Ireland. Alice herself avoided capture — likely with the help of powerful allies — and fled Ireland, possibly to England. After her flight, she disappears completely from the historical record.

The building, now known as Kyteler’s Inn in Kilkenny, is traditionally associated with her. While it stands on the site of her former residence, there is no historical evidence that Alice Kyteler founded or operated it as an inn. It is documented use as a public house date from the seventeenth century, long after her time.

The case of Dame Alice Kyteler remains the earliest recorded witchcraft trial in Irish history. It survives through the writings of Bishop Ledrede and later analysis by historians such as Bernadette Williams, providing a rare glimpse into the intersection of religion, power, and law in fourteenth-century Ireland.

The Talbot Family's Darkest Secrets: Malahide Castle's Ghostly Legacy
(my next YouTube short documentary) is scheduled for 8:05pm tonight! (Irish time ☘️)

Not a premiere for this video. I will be sharing a clip around the same time for a taster of the video. It should be a good one just in time for Halloween.

However, as always, I will discuss the history of the place and share my opinion. Here are some images from the trip that we took a few days ago. Hope you enjoy the video if you choose to watch 👀

The two places in Ireland that are the MOST associated with Samhain and Halloween Night 🔥

Rathcroghan is an archaeological complex in County Roscommon, the ancient capital of Roscommon. A sacred assembly point where the Oénach took place, closely associated with Queen Maeve, Táin Bó Culaigne, and the entrance into the otherworld, from where the old deities and ancient ones came to earth during Samhain.

The Hill of Tlachtga is an important prehistoric complex most associated with the fire festival of Samhain. It was a huge fortification in the Boyne Valley, close to Tara, in Co. Meath and it was also a meeting point of great renown with it's roots connected to an ancient sun goddess and druid of the Tuathá de Danaan. This is where the fires of Ireland kindled their fires from.
