Ryunohara is a place for people to reconnect with nature through tea and rice planted with no fertilisers, herbicides, or pesticides. We are located deep in the mountains of Wakayama, Japan, in a village called Ryujinmura.
You can book a stay at Ryunohara Hatago, a 120-year-old farmhouse that has been restored with modern amenities, dine at the main house next door under a kayabuki thatched roof, prance around with the resident goats Deko, Honda, and Makita, and cuddle with our Ryujin chickens (some of only 300 left in the world). Book here: airbnb.com/h/Ryunohara.
Sign up on our rejuvenating short-term stay and experiences at Ryunohara Retreats: www.ryunohara.com/retreats
We also have a volunteer programme, where you can come stay for 3-4 weeks to work on And if you're interested in booking a stay here: forms.gle/QX1BiR4bo8SkdDJu5

I’ve been incredibly busy preparing for the pre-opening tomorrow and couldn’t work on a video update at the same time. There’ll be an update next weekend but here’s a sneak peak of the food we’ll be serving at Ryunohara Shokudo.

I’m skipping this week’s video because it’s been a week of little things like installing bamboo blinds, insect mesh, buying lamps from Ikea, talking to the butcher, and lots of boring administrative work. More substantial updates in next Saturday’s video, I promise!

It’s been raining all week here and I’ve been busy planting rice, cutting grass, and laser engraving the tea boxes so that they can be sent out early next week.
That left little time to record a video, so there’s no video this weekend — big update next weekend!

I’m in Hanase, Kyoto for the weekend for the inaugural Kominka Summit, a gathering of people interested in, working on, and living in traditional Japanese houses. I’m on a panel discussion about community relations and I’ll be sharing tips about getting along with your adopted community today.
So there’ll be no upload today but next Saturday’s upload will be about a new house another friend purchased nearby Ryunohara. Stay tuned!

Been hard at work clearing some fields for the tea plants I want to grow, while Mori and Ume have been having loads of walks. So no video this weekend and next. Will be back when the ume (Japanese apricots) bloom!
