Before taking my first cruise, I had no idea where to start. I had very little knowledge of the industry overall, and I had no idea 'how to cruise'. One thing was clear - there were so many things that could go wrong.
As soon as I boarded my first cruise ship, I knew immediately that this was a way to see the world that I believed in, and then my YouTube channel was born.
Here at 'Fraser at Sea', I want to use my channel to help you to plan and have the best cruise possible. I share with you my cruise and travel tips, take you away with me in my vlogs, and aim to hopefully immerse you in the experiences as we go.

A day in Flåm, Norway! 🇳🇴🛳

Welcome to the next port on our itinerary onboard P&O Iona. So many people come here to ride the Flåm railway, but I actually did that when I first visited here a few years ago. Instead of taking the famous train, I opted to go on a hike from the cruise port to Brekkefossen Waterfall. 👀⛰
.
I'd heard that this waterfall hike had a fantastic view over the port and town, and so it was a no-brainer for me when planning what to do today. It turns out the reviews were right - here are some photos from my little adventure today - isn't this place just absolutely STUNNING? 🤯

After I came back down and arrived back at the cruise port, I stopped by the bakery in town to indulge in a cinnamon pastry, before heading along to take a look at Flåm Beach - who knew there was a beach right beside the cruise port here?! 🥳🏝

What’s been the most scenic sailaway you’ve ever experienced on a cruise? 👀 📸

For me, I’ve been super fortunate to have experienced so many beautiful ports across Norway over the last year or so. I’d say that what I saw leaving Olden on this cruise was right up there - that’s scenery that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. 🥹
.
The small town of Olden is located at the inner end of Nordfjord, and the transit to the open ocean after leaving the town takes hours. This means that you get incredible scenery all evening when you cruise from here, so it’s always important to keep your camera handy during this part of the cruise itinerary! 😊

A day in Olden, Norway! 🇳🇴

Instead of taking an expensive cruise line excursion today, I decided to set off on a hike from Iona. I headed for Floen Lake, which is a couple of kilometres away from the port, as I’d heard it was absolutely gorgeous out there. 👀 ⛰️
.
I’ll post more about this in my YouTube review of this cruise (make sure you’re subscribed to ‘Fraser at Sea’ here on YouTube so that you don’t miss that), but it was incredible. This hike goes through the town, along the riverside, and then loops around the lake. Absolutely stunning! 🤩

Have you ever been to ‘The Limelight Club’ on a cruise? 🎤🤔

Tonight, I went to ‘The Limelight Club’ onboard P&O Iona. This venue is really unique to just about any others that I’ve seen on cruise ships - guest entertainers come onboard and essentially take up residency here, performing shows throughout the cruise. 🎶 🎭
.
You do need to pay extra for this one - it’s £25pp for a ‘dinner show’, which includes a 3-course dinner and also the show afterwards. 💰
.
Our act for this cruise is Matt Terry, who you might remember from the X Factor. He actually won the X Factor back in 2016, and it was super interesting to hear him share stories about what it was like on the show, and it was also brilliant to hear him perform - what a voice! 👏🏼

A day in Haugesund, Norway! 🇳🇴

This is a cruise port that I’ve visited before, but there’s one thing I wanted to do when I was last here that I ran out of time to do: the Rising Tides.
.
This sculpture was first installed on the River Thames within sight of the Houses of Parliament, back in 2015. 👀 Taken from the artist’s website: “The sculptures symbolise our desire to control natural forces, but their position in a vast body of moving water highlights our inherent fragility. It is intended to provide a disturbing metaphor for rising sea levels, demonstrating how little time we have to act, yet crucially it offers hope as it resets itself each day, offering us the opportunity for change.” 🌎 🌊

Fascinating, isn’t it? 😊 Here’s a few photos from my day here, and also some pictures from the sculpture, which is about a 45 minute walk from the cruise port. 👏🏼 🐎

It’s Formal Night onboard Iona tonight, as we continue to sail towards Norway. Tomorrow morning, we’ll be waking up in Haugesund, our first Norwegian port of call. 🇳🇴

The dress code around the ship tonight is officially referred to as ‘Black Tie’, but I’ve opted to wear a lighter suit. On a ship like this, so many people don’t wear formal black tie outfits, so I really enjoy seeing how everyone onboard opts to ‘dress up’. 🤵 💃🏻

I’m in Southampton today to board Iona, one of the biggest cruise ships serving the U.K. market. 👀 🇬🇧 I’m heading to the Norwegian Fjords on a 7-night cruise this week, so I’m super excited to see what this size of ship is like in that part of the world… ⛰️ 🇳🇴

I’ve been on this ship class before, most recently on Iona’s sister ship (Arvia), but I was only on there for a 4-nighter. Let’s see what a whole week looks like onboard one of these ships! 👀
