Difference between Purchasing, Sourcing and Procurement

Purchase

What it means: Buying the things you need.
Example: Imagine you’re having a party, and you need to buy a cake. Going to the store and buying the cake is like making a purchase.

Sourcing
What it means: Finding out where to get the best stuff for your party.
Example: Before you buy the cake, you might check out different bakeries to see who makes the best cakes at the best prices. This is like sourcing.

Procurement
What it means: The whole process of getting everything ready for your party.
Example: Planning the party involves deciding what you need (cake, balloons, games), finding the best places to get them (sourcing), and then actually buying them (purchasing). The whole process from planning to buying is like procurement.

So, purchasing is just buying the cake, sourcing is finding the best bakery, and procurement is making sure you have everything for the party from start to finish.
