Dissemination Event of the National Dietary Guidelines for Bangladesh
Bangladesh first introduced its National Dietary Guidelines in 2000, followed by updates in 2013 and 2020. These guidelines have played a key role in shaping public health policy and raising awareness about healthy eating. In 2025, the updated version, developed for clinicians, nutritionists and dietitians under the leadership of the National Nutrition Services (NNS) and the Food Policy Monitoring Unit (FPMU), was officially disseminated. The guidelines adopt a comprehensive, food-based approach aimed at promoting sustainable improvements in health and nutrition, that comprises of three sections: General dietary guidelines, age specific dietary guidelines and disease specific dietary guidelines
A dissemination event was held on 14 September 2025 at the CIRDAP Auditorium, Dhaka, organized by NNS with technical support from WHO. The event was graced by Md. Saidur Rahman, Secretary, Health Services Division, MoHFW, as Chief Guest, along with representatives from WHO, FAO, BIRDEM, FPMU, and DGHS.
In his remarks, the Secretary highlighted the importance of a multisectoral approach and acknowledged the technical support of WHO, FAO, and other partners in developing the guidelines. Dr. Rajesh Narwal, Deputy WHO Representative, emphasized integrating the guidelines into policies across food, health, and education sectors and reaffirmed WHOโs continued support in the implementation process.
