Took a little trip to the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose.
I was approached by the Winchester LLC back in 2021 to film a video tour of the property, but it got put on hold due to Covid restrictions.
Today was my first time getting to explore the mansion and I’m even more interested in the history of not only this house, but of Sarah Winchester’s story.
During her time in San Jose she spent nearly 38 years building the house without end to appease the spirits of those slain by the Winchester Rifle.
The house holds 160 rooms, including 40 bedrooms and 2 ballrooms.
Staircases that lead to ceilings, doors that open into walls or 20-foot drops, and windows facing other rooms.
It is estimated that she spent $5mil building the house, which in today’s economy would be about $192mil.
They haven’t found any blueprints or master plan of the house, but I have a sneaking suspicion that there may be a map hidden within the walls of Sarah’s home, still waiting to be uncovered.

From concept to cover - This photo became the cover of my photography book, "How To Explore Abandoned Buildings."
This project was a collaboration between myself and Mr Sketch (AKA: Cursed Sketchbook), who specializes in urbex themed sketches over real images.
Together we curated 50 images to coincide with 50 tips for urban explorers from my archives to build this book. It was such a fun project to work on and I love how it turned out.

A piece of urbex lore about me:
AirBnB asked me to host “experiences” once, but they wanted me to take people into abandoned buildings.. you know..illegally
I simply replied asking if they were planning on covering bail for these people and they ghosted me. 👻🤣

Mushrooms that eat radiation in Pripyat and plastic in the Amazon, record breaking levels of rainfall, an insane tornado season, multiple simultaneous volcanic eruptions..
As someone who sees what nature does in abandoned buildings, it sounds to me like nature is fighting back against the harm that humans have caused this planet. 🌱
