The bench is covered in computers, modems, phone hardware, and enough beige plastic to alarm the neighbors.
But it is finally working.
My VCF Midwest exhibit, The Internet Before It Was Silent, recreates both a 1997 dial-up web experience and a Commodore 64 BBS.
The full build and demonstration is coming in the next episode.
Who remembers hearing that modem handshake and knowing you were finally online?

Physical media was supposed to disappear.
But somehow, I’m still using cassette tapes, VHS, Beta, S-VHS, Hi8, Betacam SP, CDs, vinyl, floppies, Commodore data cassettes, and 10.5-inch 15 IPS open reel tape.
This week’s episode is a tour through the old formats I still use, why they mattered, and why obsolete does not always mean unimportant.
New episode drops Wednesday at 2 PM Central.
