A very disturbing case of sexual harassment has taken place at NIT Trichy, one of the "most prestigious" engineering colleges in India. On 29th August 2024, a female hostel resident was quietly reading in her room when an electrician entered under the pretense of working on the hostel WiFi. What followed is beyond shocking-without warning, he began masturbating in front of her, a sickening smirk on his face as he forced her to witness his vile act.
Terrified, the victim fled her room, but when she returned, she was met with a floor covered in semen. Instead of receiving the support she desperately needed, she and her friends were met with utter indifference and disgraceful victim blaming by the hostel authorities. They shamed her for her clothing, for being in her own room, and even for not knowing martial arts-completely ignoring the horrific crime committed against her. Now her entire future is destroyed and she is going to live with that mental stress in her entire life.
Guys, I've been saying it since the day I joined this college-our hostel management is absolutely careless. They don't care about students or their complaints. This is just one case on record, but imagine how many more go unreported. Their negligence has led to this tragedy, and it's time we speak up.
It's shocking that a college of national importance can't even ensure the safety of its female students. After the horrible incident the warden said "it is the girls mistake " still the college cares about its image.
it's stewards responsibility to stay until the men are inside our hostel rooms But they really didn't come with men who are coming for electrical, civil or plumbing work. How can we assume we are safe inside. And the behaviour of the stewards is very irresponsible.
