Wai Lana Yoga

It’s yoga pose time! This pose lengthens the front of your body and revitalizes your legs—especially when they feel dull and achy from prolonged sitting or standing. By raising your knees and pelvis slightly above head level, you stimulate a gentle flow of healing energy throughout your body. Step by step instructions below 👇🏼.

1. Lie on your back, bend your knees, and bring your heels a few inches from your buttocks. Point your feet forward, hip-width apart. Place your arms at your sides, palms down.

2. Tuck your buttocks under, inhale and lift your hips and your back off the floor until your body forms a diagonal line from your shoulders to your knees. Squeeze your buttocks to make the pose strong. Hold the pose for 10 to 30 seconds with normal breathing.

3. Exhale and roll down slowly, one vertebra at a time. Relax for a moment. Repeat once or twice more, intensifying the pose by increasing the contraction in your buttocks. Finally, extend your legs and rest.

I often recommend this simple and familiar #exercise to friends who stand on their feet all day. It really helps rejuvenate tired legs and feet, loosen stiff hips, and reduce pressure from varicose veins. It’s also a manageable way to develop core strength in your belly. Be sure to keep your upper body relaxed throughout the exercise. Step by step instructions below 👇🏼.

1. Lie on your back with your arms at your sides, palms down. Bend your knees to your chest.

2. Make slow cycling movements with your legs as if riding a bicycle. Point your toes and make big circles. Repeat 10 to 20 times, cycling a little faster as you near the end of the set. Breathe evenly and make your movements smooth.

3. Now reverse direction, cycling backwards. Start out slowly and gradually speed up. Repeat 10 to 20 times.

4. Bring both knees to your chest, lower your legs to the floor, and relax.
