Power BI, a business analytics tool by Microsoft, and the Microsoft Power Platform, a suite of tools for building business solutions, are core components of the Data Revolution. This revolution is reshaping the way businesses operate and make decisions. Data, often referred to as the currency of change, holds immense potential for organisations across various industries. Realising this potential requires a strategic approach and the appropriate tools to extract, analyse, and interpret data effectively. Organisations need to comprehend how to harness the power of data to drive informed decision-making, optimise operations, and gain a competitive edge in the marketplace.

At Geordie Intelligence, our aim is to instruct you on the practical use of these tools and their significance while stimulating conversations. We can assist you in honing your skills in Power BI, offer advice on crucial considerations, and support your organisation's data transformation.

We are reaching an inflection point as a channel and we would appreciate your participation and feedback. As you know already we are a Microsoft Stack channel, however the content we produce has always been intended to be applicable beyond that stack as well. Remember we try to focus on the why of something as much as the how.

There are a few things we have not done as yet, mostly because we wanted to monitor the situation and did not feel the core had changed... until now. So we ask you to take a moment and let me know what would you like to see? Part of this is of course that there is a financial impact on us going in a particular direction.

Option 1: Microsoft Fabric: We take out an actual Microsoft Fabric subscription and build content specifically on that.

Option 2: Open Source: The US Cloud Act 2018 is having a marked impact across the EU (with the UK still not understanding the impact), As Europe moves away from the US centric tools there is a gap in Analytics. Yes there are Open Source options, but should we start to explore how we can use them in a real world scenario.

Option 3: Open Source + Local AI: Extending on the impact of the US Cloud Act 2018 should we also start to test local AI to support that transition to Open Source. We have looked at multiple channels that talk about local AI and typically they are using cloud AI, but via a local host, so the main privacy concerns are not mitigate (calls are still being made to a cloud provider)

For either of these options we are going to need to source either money, credits or donations. Option 1 has to move out of the Fabric Trial as that is an F64 level and so unrealistic for the small level of datasets we would throw at it. Option 2 will require us to ensure we have some dedicated hardware to run VM's on. Option 3 adds a need for an AI capable device that can run suitable large models as well as a VM host.

Feel free to let us know if you think we've missed something or if there's something else you think we should be covering. Be sure to pass this post to your friends and colleagues, we are starting to plan the next series and we need to know what it is going to be on.
