I have a grade 5 student who refuses to write on the screen when I ask him to. His argument is very simple: he says he doesn't have a good writing style.

I tried to encourage him, but he wouldn't listen, so I stayed calm about that. And guess what happened next

We had a group class with other students joining from different locations. When I gave them classwork, they would willingly ask for my permission to write on the screen. (I am sure Hadriel would be like What? This is what I am running away from.. (my thought)).

Of course, I always allow them to write and explain their steps, this would help me understand what their thought processes are for that particular task. I would also know from their explanation if they had finally gotten the concept correctly.

Long after that time, all my students now want to write on the screen, even Hadriel, who was always refusing...

Well, they're all finding it fun to write on the screen now, but for me, that's a very good time to evaluate them..

So please tell me what you're taking home from this experience.
