Why I chose to self-publish.
Not because it was easier — because it was truer.
I didn’t want to wait for permission to tell the truth.
I didn’t want to soften my message to fit a committee.
I didn’t want an 18–24 month delay while classrooms needed support now.
And I didn’t want my work filtered through people who’ve never taught a single student in a STEM classroom.
Self-publishing gave me what traditional publishing couldn’t:
• Creative freedom
• Speed
• Ownership
• An unfiltered voice for educators
Every chapter, every framework, every reflection prompt in Equity Builds Expertise and the Equitable Grading in STEM Planner exists because it serves teachers — not trends, not profit models.
Most people don’t see this part:
Self-publishing meant I invested my own money, time, heart, and belief that educators deserve better tools today, not someday.
