RARE 28th Massachusetts Civil War Veteran Ladder Badge - Company B!
I was recently able to acquire an exceptionally rare Civil War veteran ladder badge connected to Company B, 28th Massachusetts.
Ladder badges were privately purchased reunion badges worn by Union veterans at Grand Army of the Republic events and regimental reunions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These multi-bar “ladder” style badges were typically engraved with company, regiment, state, and service details.
Relics tied specifically to the 28th Massachusetts are scarce, and pieces identified down to the company level are even more uncommon. As someone who portrays Company B in living history, preserving this piece feels especially meaningful.
Artifacts like this are tangible links to the soldiers who served and later gathered to remember that service decades after the war.
Have you encountered other identified Civil War reunion badges or ladder badges in your collecting or research?

🇺🇸Fredericksburg, 163 Years Ago☘️
Seven Union divisions.
Sixteen brigades.
Eighty-five regiments.
The Irish Brigade made its most famous charge of the Civil War - advancing to within 30 yards of the stone wall at Marye’s Heights, the closest any Union soldiers reached that day.
Courage measured in yards. 🇮🇪🇺🇸

Had some questions/comments about the stance of the shooters in the recent live fire videos.
In the 1860’s this was the prescribed shooting stance. Soldiers were expected to stand with their feet in a ‘T’, not in the modern shooting stance.
This is from Casey’s manual, which was used by Union soldiers throughout the war.

⚔️ 17 Miles. Full Kit. No Excuses. ☘️
The 28th Massachusetts just pushed through an epic 17-mile march on the Appalachian Trail - every step in full, authentic Civil War kit, shoes and all. This wasn’t just a hike, it was a test of grit, history, and brotherhood. We honor the men of the 28th by walking in their footsteps - one blister, one hill, one mile at a time.
☘️ 28th Mass, strong as hell.

What kit to get first???
We recommend issue shirt, canteen, hat, and sack coat as they are the most visible and personal items - but what do you think?
