A line follower robot does NOT actually see the line like a camera.
Instead, it uses IR (Infrared) sensors to detect light reflection from the surface.
Hereβs how it works:
β 1. IR Sensors Emit Infrared Light
Each IR sensor has:
π IR LED β sends out invisible infrared light
π Photodiode/phototransistor β reads how much light comes back
This pair together detects how reflective the surface is.
β 2. White Surface Reflects IR Light
White returns a lot of IR light, so the sensor reads:
π High reflection / High analog value / β1β
β 3. Black Line Absorbs IR Light
Black absorbs most IR light, so almost nothing comes back:
π Low reflection / Low analog value / β0β
This contrast is what the robot uses.
