I just listened to the Ridge Racer Type 4 OST for the first time 🎶 And I made a full-length, unscripted video sharing my reactions and thoughts as it plays.
These monthly videos are for paid supporters, but there's also a free tier where you'll get behind-the-scenes updates, extra information/previews for upcoming videos, and (eventually) exclusive text-only essays about game music!
Support is completely optional - And I'll never lock any major videos behind paywalls.
But if you decide to offer support, it does mean so much... And with enough help, I can dedicate much more time to VGM Quest!"
I'll be back soon with the N64 Menu Music video - Stay tuned 🤘🤘
If you can HEAR this image, then the next VGM Quest video is for you: N64 Menu Music 🎶
In what I'm calling a VGM "Side Quest", I'll be taking a deep dive into twenty different menu songs spanning multiple games from the Nintendo 64's library. From hard rock, to DnB, to hip-hop, and ambient, the genre variety is quite surprising -- And there are tons of solid tracks to be found in this collection.
I just finished the script and plan on having this one out within the next handful of weeks! Stay tuned.
What are some of your favorite menu themes (not to be mistaken for title themes)? Any console, any era!
I just wanted to give one final shoutout to the latest VGM Quest installment: Minecraft. It's become clear that YouTube never gave this video a chance and I just wanted to make sure any interested subscribers knows this exists!
If it's your first time seeing this video, I truly hope you enjoy. This is by far my proudest work with VGM Quest so far... And I truly believe there's nothing quite like the music I break down in this video 🎵
No game soundtrack has affected me like Minecraft's has, and I dug into it more deeply than anything I've made before. What I've found is that the effects of Minecraft's music are multi-dimensional...A phenomenon I've never encountered before in game music.
I genuinely hope this latest installment resonates with you like it has for me through making it 🎶
Boy, I've been dying to make this announcement for MONTHS. The next VGM Quest installment is dropping this Saturday at 12PM EST! I'll be taking a deep dive into Minecraft's music and exploring a very unique, multi-dimensional theme that I have never seen (or felt) before in a game soundtrack.
This one clocks in at a little over an hour -- So make sure you put some time aside this weekend 🎵
Phew… The script for the Minecraft video is finally complete! Now it’s off to recording, editing, and production.
I like to be remote while I write. You’ll most likely find me at a park or a little coffee shop. However, this time in particular I found myself writing at the local library most often. Call it serendipity or coincidence, but my library just so happened to be decorated with what I would call… visual inspiration. I shared a couple pictures if you’d like to see what I mean.
This one is shaping up to be my biggest (and most favorite) installment yet. I cannot wait to share it with you!
The next VGM Quest installment: Minecraft. This was inevitable, right?
My relationship with Minecraft spans back to the beta days, so exploring this music on a deeper level has been such a meaningful experience in so many ways.
It's been a joy writing this script, but it has its challenges. I'm currently re-working things to better articulate my primary message. There's something really special about Minecraft's music and I want to give it my best. I've still got a ways to go — And it's shaping up to be quite possibly the biggest video yet.
Every VGM Quest installment starts with the same process: Research and note-taking.
This is the stage I'm currently in with the latest video. It's where I first dig into the music, winnow my thoughts, and develop the broader theme/thesis that will glue the entire video together. I prefer to do all my note-taking by hand; I find that I articulate my ideas better when I have to slow down and write them out.
All that said, this particular installment is one I've been wanting to do since I created this channel. It feels great to finally get to work on this one! After all... It's some of the greatest video game music ever composed. And I'm certainly not the only one who feels that way.
And if you're wanting to know what game's music I'll be covering this time, take a look at my notes. There's a pretty easy hint if you look for it 🔎

The AUDIO for the upcoming Minecraft video is now complete! Final step... Video! We're almost there!
As a bonus, here's my cat, Sadie. She always supports my work by sitting directly in front of my monitor and obstructing my line of sight.
I can't wait to get this latest installment out into the world. It's a big one... a little over an hour long!
See you again soon 🎶
