For the (very few) of you who are interested in the sausage making with YouTube, I just received notice of some changes to the YouTube Partnership Program (pasted below) that on balance, makes it more difficult to start a new channel or earn revenue unless you are a really big channel. Most importantly, they've raised the watch hour requirement to qualify for monetization to 8,000 over the past 365 days (DOUBLE the current 4,000 requirement). Also, your shorts will no longer earn revenue unless they receive 10M views over the past 90 days, which is an extremely high hurdle for smaller channels. (I'll miss the $10 a month I earned on shorts 😥🤣🤣🤣).
The conclusion: the 💩-ification of YouTube continues. Expect the algorithm to be rebalanced to reflect these changes too. So expect LESS authenticity and LESS exposure to new channels or channels who just want to share a passion or hobby (and maybe make a couple of bucks). And expect MORE corporate backers, MORE "influencer" culture, MORE livestreams and videos that are basically commercials, and MORE people starting channels as a business rather than for fun.
*Stepping off my soapbox* 😂. It's fine if you think I'm whining, because I kind of am. I'm thankful for the platform to share my gambling stories with you. I'm just forecasting what you'll probably see more of as these policy changes take effect. It's obvious what YT wants channels to do and we shouldn't look negatively on the channels that are doing that. (Personally, I'm too old, stubborn, and LAZY to change much at this point, so stay tuned for the same old boring 💩 on this channel as before! 🤪)

For the 7th year, I'll be doing an all nighter Vegas livestream during Labor Day weekend to raise funds and awareness for the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. We've raised over $10K the first 6 years. 😃 This year's theme will be the "Tour de Vegas" - the plan is to hit the South end of the Strip and then check out off-Strip casinos.
