Do you want to learn how to grow your own food and be more self-sufficient? With the craziness of the world lately, I think it is a MUST HAVE skill for everyone to learn, and that is one of the reasons why I started my vegetable garden. Here at 12 Acres Farm, we are on our journey to self-sufficiency, and we wanted to share the knowledge and skills that we learn along the way with you all! We love to grow and preserve as much food as we can and encourage everyone that we meet to do the same. It would be fantastic for you to join us as we get back to basics and live life the simple way. As always, with my videos, I hope I can encourage and inspire you all to get into your gardens, plant some seeds, plant some plants, grow some food, and try and be a bit more self-sufficient. I can't wait to hear about your own gardening journey in the comments!

I am absolutely thrilled to have this huge watermelon harvest! I was hoping to film picking all of the watermelons, but with 40 degrees celcius temperatures, I didn't hang around outside too long today. I hope the melons ripened OK. All of the vines ended up dying from disease, so the melons had to be picked. I guess we'll see as we cut into them.

We also picked another huge amount of cucumbers too. Cucumber season is well and truly here.

We are feeling so blessed to have such a bounty from the garden, especially with so much of the garden struggling or completely dying back from this intense heat we have been having over the past couple of weeks.

The next to harvest will be the pumpkins! Some of them are getting sun scald, so hopefully, they can make it through the heat. 🙏

How is your garden going at the moment? Are you dealing with intense heat or the cold of winter?

We got hit with a HUGE storm earlier this evening. I didn't realise the extent of the damage until we went outside after the storm had passed. This is just some of the damage.

The storm was short, but furious. We have lots of fallen branches, big and small and a few small trees fallen or snapped too. Nearly all of the shade cloth covering our shade houses was ripped off, and a big, heavy bird aviary was flipped over to its side. It was absolutely crazy.

The wind just seemed to either flatten things in it's path, or snap them in half. I walked around filming some of the damage this afternoon, so I may upload a video in the next day or so. I hope everyone stayed safe in the crazy weather.

God Bless. Kelly. 🌻

I am super excited to harvest our first watermelon of the season! This variety is called Bush Jubilee, an heirloom that is great for smaller spaces. The vine grows pretty compact (about 1-2 metres) and produces deliciously sweet melons. 😋🍉😋 This melon was 7.2kgs which is on the larger size for this variety.

Unfortunately, the rest of the plants have succumb to disease and are dying. There are still a heap of watermelons on the vines so I hope we can harvest them before the vines die back completely. 🙏🙏

Not so much gardening, but I wanted to share the importance of indoor plants too. Having indoor plants not only look amazing, but they also help to reduce stress, fight anxiety and depression and help to remove toxins from the air. How amazing is that! 😍

The onions aren't quite ready for storing as the leaves haven't died back yet, but I can still pick them to eat fresh! 😋 This one was delicious in our salad. I planted these onions in groups of five or six seeds and they are growing awesome big onions. 🧅😀🌻
