Mathematics and Science unpack with Promaths SD

Welcome to Promaths SD! I’m Mr NW Ndzimandze, and this is my personal math & science tutorial channel. Inspired by my experience at the Promaths programme, I create easy-to-follow lessons, tips, and guides to help high school students excel in mathematics and science. This channel is independently run and not officially affiliated with Promaths.

πŸ“ NEW SERIES: COORDINATE GEOMETRY | Maths for NSC & GCE/IGCSE πŸ“Š

I’m excited to launch a step-by-step Coordinate Geometry series designed to help learners master the topic with confidence β€” whether you’re preparing for South Africa’s NSC exams, Cambridge GCE/IGCSE, EGCSE or just strengthening your graph skills.

You’ll get clear explanations, worked examples, and exam tips in every video πŸ“Ή.

πŸ“Œ What We’ll Cover (Aligned to Syllabi)

🟦 South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) / CAPS – Further Education and Training
In the NSC Mathematics curriculum, Analytical Geometry (the coordinate geometry strand) is part of the standard content learners must know. The topics learners are expected to work on include:
βœ” plotting points in the Cartesian plane
βœ” finding midpoint of a line segment
βœ” calculating gradient (slope) between two points
βœ” finding length (distance) between coordinates
βœ” deriving and interpreting the equation of a straight line
βœ” understanding parallel and perpendicular lines
These concepts form part of the Analytical Geometry topic tested in exams.

πŸŸ₯ Cambridge GCE / IGCSE Mathematics (Cambridge 0607)
According to the official Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics syllabus, Coordinate Geometry includes:
βœ” Using and interpreting Cartesian coordinates in two dimensions
βœ” Gradient of straight-line graphs
βœ” Length and midpoint from coordinates
βœ” Obtaining and interpreting the equation of a straight line in the form y = mx + c
βœ” Finding lines parallel to a given line (and optionally perpendicular)
βœ” Examining graph features (intercepts, slopes, intersection points)
These are examined both on calculator and non-calculator papers.

πŸŽ₯ Overview of the Video Series

Each video will help you build deep conceptual understanding and exam readiness:

Cartesian Plane Essentials – axes, points, quadrants

Plotting Points & Reading Coordinates

Distance Between Two Points

Midpoint Formula & Applications

Gradient (Slope) of a Line

Equation of a Line – Part A: y = mx + c

Equation of a Line – Part B: Special Cases

Parallel & Perpendicular Lines

Intersection of Two Lines

Coordinate Geometry with Shapes

Area of Triangle Using Coordinates

Past Paper Walkthrough (NSC & IGCSE)

Each video will connect the maths concepts to past exam style questions and marker expectations to help you score higher on test day.
