My reference is a teeny pic from a book of Oregon's rare and endangered plants. It's small, and deceptively difficult to get the colors and proportions right.
The first attempt was done on a greeting card sized paper. I got impatient so I left blue redraw lines everywhere, embellished with some highlighting dots, and washed out the background. It feels flat and not at all what i was hoping for.
Today I'm trying it again, but on a page that's 4x the size. Hoping to create a painting that captures the beauty in the bizarre coloring and lighting. The photos in this book are... peculiar.
