Phil Anthony opening for Darude at Q

Friday August 21, Darude lands at Q Nightclub as part of the HYPE Tour 2026, and Phil Anthony takes the opening set.

The Finnish producer needs little introduction. "Sandstorm" turned into one of the most widely recognised records in electronic music and has stayed in rotation across two and a half decades of clubs, stadiums and internet culture. Behind that single sits a long career of touring, releases and a run representing Finland at Eurovision in 2019. He remains a genuine DJ's DJ, and the HYPE Tour finds him deep in club territory.

Q Nightclub, 1426 Broadway
Friday, Aug 21st 2026
10:00pm - 2:00am

They started as two guys with a B2B name they came up with at a Beyond Wonderland campsite. Since launching Dilly Disco ‪@Dillydisco‬ in 2025, Chris and Reef have produced more than 60 events, sold out the HIYU with Disco Fish, brought Chris Lake and OMNOM through Central Saloon, and opened for artists including Gudfella and Mita Gami.

Phil Anthony sits down with them to find out how the hell it all happened.

The conversation gets into the origin story, from a chance meeting at the gym and their first James Hype show, to the night they made an Instagram account at a bar and threw their first party two weeks later at The Zone.

They talk candidly about what event production really looks like: ground loops and buzzing PAs, a rented sub that blew right before their set, and the guy who told them people were leaving because they weren't playing Lana Del Rey. They break down the HIYU logistics, the captain, the security team, regulations, etc. and just how much it takes from a promoter to pull off an event like that.

There's a bigger conversation here too, about a gap in the Seattle scene. Chris and Reef make the case that Washington has long been bass and dubstep country, and that plenty of newer listeners find the established house rooms hard to walk into cold. Their answer is a party that meets people where they are, then pulls them deeper.

Phil pushes back from 30 years in the scene, and the two perspectives land somewhere genuinely interesting.

Also covered: the tension between DJ identity and brand identity, why they'd rather book underground artists than chase commercial headliners, the mission statement they wrote in 15 minutes for a sponsor meeting, running a marketing operation with a team of two, the Dilly Disco radio submission system that has become a pipeline for booking new DJs, their residencies at Vice and Roam, and the Chris Lake afterparty story that nearly ended before it started.

Plus, a look ahead at Lot 909 on August 22nd, their day party in Fremont with Disco Fish, Dan Molinari, GCat, and 18 Funktion-One subs.

After more than 30 years behind the decks, Phil Anthony shares a few thoughts on what DJ mixes have come to mean to him before launching into a brighter, warmer, and slightly more disco-forward journey than usual.

Captured on Whidbey Island over Fourth of July weekend, Sunshine Disco was never planned. No track prep. No agenda. Just a collection of new music and following wherever the groove wanted to go.

Sometimes the best snapshots are the ones you never meant to take.

Seattle House Mafia

Phil Anthony sits down with Mixed Up Mike (Mike Comella), a Seattle DJ, promoter, and dance music veteran with more than 25 years in the scene.
https://youtu.be/F64MElY9U3o

Mike's introduction to dance music is one you won't forget. After growing up between Portland and Seattle and getting into trouble as a teenager, he found himself being hauled off to a wilderness rehabilitation program by two giant dudes, an experience that changed the course of his life.

There, he met a new group of friends who introduced him to his first rave at NAFF Studios in 1999, and the rest is history. Later that same summer, watching Seattle DJ legend Donald Glaude perform at Bumbershoot became the defining moment when he realized exactly what he wanted to do with his life.

Phil and Mike trace the full arc, from the early days grinding on Gemini belt-drive turntables and building a vinyl collection to landing his first residency at Watertown in Belltown while working a day job at Guitar Center.

They also dive into his work with Kaos Theory Events alongside promoter Jeff Dowlz, including the story of bringing Skrillex to Seattle for the very first time in 2011. The contract was signed before "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" exploded a month later, setting the stage for a memorable call from the booking agent asking to renegotiate the deal.

The conversation also explores why Mike stepped away from DJing for a time, and what ultimately brought him back. That story is deeply personal.

One afternoon, Mike's three-year-old daughter Lila wandered into the garage and instinctively started back-spinning on his turntables. As a non-verbal child with autism, music has become one of the ways she connects with the world, and one of the ways Mike connects with her. Watching her that day, Mike realized DJing had become something bigger than himself.

About a year into creating content, Mike's "Bring These Tracks Back" series caught Phil's attention on Instagram, long before he realized Mike was local. That's what led to this conversation.

They also dive into a thoughtful discussion about AI in music, what it means for creators, why it sparks such strong reactions, and what it could eventually mean for people like Lila.

Honest, experienced, and refreshingly free of clout-chasing. Just a deep love of music and a story worth hearing.

Earlier this year, house music lost DJ Buck.

For Crate Diggers Session 3, I wanted to revisit some of my favorite DJ Buck productions, remixes, and collaborations. These are records that helped shape my love of house music and destroy more than a few dance floors along the way.

A quick note on the opening track, Love Movement. You may hear a bit of surface noise during the first few minutes. Normally I'd try to find a cleaner copy, but this particular record has earned every crackle and pop. It's been played, shared, packed, unpacked, and played some more over the years. I decided to leave it exactly as it is.

Dedicated to the memory of DJ Buck.

(00:35) 01. Doc Martin & Buck – Love Movement
(09:25) 02. DJ Buck – 405
