Hi I'm Bo Johnson and I'm an above average professional stand up comedian.

My stand up has been featured on Comedy Central's Hart of the City on Comedy Central and I've performed at festivals including the prestigious Just for Laughs in Montreal, Bumbershoot in Seattle, Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas, and Rifflandia in Victoria BC. Most recently I taped a secret set for Don't Tell Comedy (full set can be found on their page).

I tour the country and you can buy tickets to my shows here: linktr.ee/BoJohnson

Easiest way to may sure you don't miss me live or for me to know I have enough folks in a city to at least fill a small room is to join my mailing list: docs.google.com/forms/d/1TSurizlXuwjpsIx6LNCTxCTbT…

You can find me on Instagram at @bojohnsoncomedy

I'll be posting more shorts plus a few longer crowd work moments and a handful of 1+ jokes

We made a 5 part hour plus long web series! First 3 episodes premiering 5/01, trailer just went live! Really excited to share this with all of you! Super low budget and all entirely self produced, but we’re really proud of how it came out!

I turned 33 years old this morning 456 miles from home doing shows in the Canadian Rockies. As I write this I’m waiting a few hours to drive a few hours to our show in Cranbrook BC tonight. That’s most of what comedy is, waiting. Waiting two hours to do 3 minutes at the open mic when you first start. Waiting to not bomb half the time you perform. Waiting 5 hours on the plane, to wait in line for the rental car, to wait in traffic, to do 1 hour of comedy across the continent from where you woke up. Waiting for the dedicated cool kids comedy publication that only comedians & industry read anyway to finally write a nice thing about your work so you can finally celebrate and be happy. Many have said it before, but if you wait for happiness you’ll be stood up at the bar.

In the last year I’ve finally figured out where true happiness lies. Not in falling in love, not in moving in with a partner & building a home, not in adopting a little dog with an underbite, not in seeing your parents as fully actualized people, not in making cool stuff with your friends. True happiness lies in the unpredictable dopamine rush from social media. Pump that sh*t straight into my veins baby.

Anyway I take this birthday as the excuse for attention and to ask a favor from the people who have been kind enough to follow me here.

1. If you like my comedy please join my email list in my link. These apps make it so hard to reach people consistently. And we all just want to share our art live and online. I’m about to release a 1 hour plus web series about Canadian pickup artists that I’d love to send to folks, and am about to tape a comedy special in Portland that will also be self released further out.

2. Many of you have already done this. But comedy specials are expensive, if you feel so inclined I have a donation page in the link or I’ll throw my Venmo in the photo slide.

3. Come to a live show or tell a friend I’ll be performing near them! Lots of live dates coming up!

4. If something I post makes you laugh share it with a friend :)

Jokes aside thanks to the little community on here. My 33rd year was filled with a lot of joy ❤️

Just a little bit over one month away from these Special taping shows in Portland. Thank you all so much for selling out both of the early shows already, with the late shows over halfway there this far out too. I had my friend Mayce (who will also be opening for me at the special tapings) draw up this rad poster for the shows!

The next month is a mad rush of my last chance to hammer out a few of the newer jokes in the set and lock in the full order.

Tour dates:

* 3/07 Pottstown, PA
* 3/09 Washington DC
* 3/12 Tacoma, WA
* 3/13 Redmond WA
* 3/14-3/15 Minneapolis MN
* 3/21 Bellingham, WA

In a humiliating move as a 32 year old, I am a VLOGGER now?

Just posted a 13 minute video from one of the wildest shows of last year. Lots of fun riffs and the SMALLEST amount of material. Would love it if folks checked it out. I’ll be posting more longer form videos over the courses of the year when I can, but would be nice if they got more than like 500 views. Trying to figure out how to bring this page back to life!

I wanted to say a sincere thank you to everyone on here. I was left totally overwhelmed by the support after announcing my self produced tapings in Portland, Oregon this coming April. I went from worried no one would come to having the early shows sold (still lots of room for the late shows but we have time!), so many generous donations to help fund the special removing a chunk of the financial burden, and so many kind words and well wishes.

I thought maybe a little behind the scenes might be interesting to a few folks here. I spent most of last year touring with an act that transitioned from the jokes forming an older headlining act to a fairly new hours minus a few old jokes. Which was great, but also realized I had started to forget a lot of jokes that have never been recorded more formally in any capacity and none of them ever in a longer form special. In December I toured three great spaces in Portland before finding a room I was confident I could sell out 3-4 times with a lot of promotion. I settled on Kickstand Comedy, a 75 seater with low ceilings perfect for comedy.

Two weekends back I toured just outside of the Portland area: a half full theater in Bingen, the banquet hall of an Airsoft arena in Hillsboro, and a sold out theater in Ridgefield. Since late last year I've been running a combination of my favorite old jokes I'm ready to start moving away from relying on and my favorite newer stuff that I'm racing to finish by April. I really like the form everything is taking at this point. Last weekend in Port Angeles, WA and Boise I was very close to what I think the finished version will look like. I may still trim a few jokes to save for the next project. I'd say there are three chunks with active moving pieces I'm still writing and shuffling, and the rest is a matter of getting the delivery honed and sorting out the best order.

Next stops are Baltimore, Washington DC, Pottstown, Minneapolis, Bellingham, Seattle, Tacoma, Saskatoon, Salem OR. and more.

Thanks again everyone!

Long, but please read, like, comment 🙂

I'm super stoked to more formally announce that in April I'll be recording my debut full length comedy special in Portland, Oregon. I've wanted to do stand up since back in middle school when I first discovered the Comedy Central half hours on the iTunes Store. And even before discovering stand up I knew I wanted to be "funny" for a living. As a kid I spent hours hunched over reading The Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes.

A bit over ten years ago I went to my first open mic at a Thai restaurant on a Tuesday night. My first joke was, "I'm a busboy, someday I'd like to have a job without the word boy in the title."

My entire "career" has been built off of online communities like YouTube and other similar platforms. I have had an incredible manager, Claire, for the past two years but never any major industry backing pushing me out to the masses. My only tv credits are nearly a decade old at this point. I've been pushed forward by folks driving from out of town to catch shows, sending my jokes to their friends, sharing their sister's friends and family discount for a hotel chain, and the list goes on and on. Thank you.

This special will be fully self produced. I've hired a talented director, a production team, rented the venue, am paying out my openers, doing all of the marketing. The special will be put up for free online after it's release. I've never been more excited and terrified at the same time. I want to make clear that I don't feel like I'm owed any support from anyone on here, I'm just glad people enjoy the work that I'm creating and are here at all. But if you want to support there are a few things you can do.

- If instead of a coffee you want to throw a few bucks to help me fund the special I have a link set up. It's my responsibility to foot the bill. But I'd be lying if I didn't say it would help. I'm only able to afford the special on my own because of the day job I had for 8 years before I quit to do stand up full-time. For a few of those year's I essentially had two full-time jobs.

- If you want something for your money (very fair!) I have merch for sale on my website.

- If you live in Portland or even if you just have friends in Portland who would enjoy my brand of humor please send information about the shows their way. I need to people who already like my work and have never heard any of the jokes before in the audience (a lot of material has never been posted online, but there is also stuff you'll have seen bits and pieces of).

- Join my mailing list so when the special comes out I can share it with as many people as possible.

- Come to one of the prep shows leading up to April

- Liking and commenting on this post :)

- Lastly if you want to come to the special but can't afford a ticket please email me with the header "Portland Comedy Special Taping" and I'll make sure you are able to attend.

I don't like asking people for anything, especially for a project that isn't even done with so many moving active variables. But I'd be kicking myself if I didn't at least throw this out into the universe.

Looking forward to the next decade of writing more jokes (hopefully better). Truly thank you so much for helping me live out my dream of sharing my jokes with the world.
