I'm a huge nerd and I love books and languages.

This is a channel to discuss literature, particularly written in English, but from many countries and in many genres. I plan on making at least one video about a book from each English speaking country in the world, every Shakespeare play, and the most important English language works as well as some not so important works.

This is a place to learn about rhetoric and writing, from rhetorical devices and poetic meter to Stephen King's advice on writing and some of my own attempts at creative writing. I believe that writing and reading are important skills that we can improve upon here.

This is also a place to learn about language. We will talk about linguistics in general, and a few other languages, but English will be the main focus, from modern grammar to interesting etymologies and the history of Middle and Old English.

Apperantly Merriam-Webster tells you the most looked up words at any given moment. I do have to wonder what brought Ukuleles, Tailzies and Septets into the zeitgeist.

The Epic of Gilgamesh is our oldest story, our first book, and we may not have everything, a lot might get lost in translation, but it is still a profoundly human story about grief, and coming to terms with our own mortality, even if we are the greatest of kings and two thirds divine. Perhaps more importantly, it's a book about how can accept the death of our loved ones.

It's not a perfect book, but it's wonderful to see how much has changed, and how much has stayed the same.

There is no other book besides The Bell Jar that I have changed my opinion on so much since I was a teenager.

What was once a well, albeit hard to follow, story that left bits and pieces of an impression here and there, now seems like an incredibly personal and direct description of someone's struggles with some of the most important things in life. I found it deeply moving, but I still struggling to find a clear meaning in its pages, but perhaps I am looking for the wrong thing.
