I was speaking to one of my contacts the other day and we were talking about how some young people are fortunate enough to be in certain spaces very early in age, because their parents or grandparents had built that foundation for them. So you notice they build connections, networks and are in prominent positions while they are in school or just starting out.
And then we were talking about how some of us, are just starting to create that path for ourselves. And it seems slow, but every connection, conversation and network feels worth it. Because you know you are setting the foundation for not just yourself but those who come after you.
If you are in your late 20s or early 30s and still trying. Do not be discouraged. Your time will come.
I do not know if you all have watched the parliament sitting last week Tuesday 25th Nov. 2025, where the 2026 National Budget was presented. There was a lot of things mentioned, pinpointing of fingers here and there, but I was caught by a few things I want to mention. The Minister for Treasury (Treasurer) stated and I quote “inflation is way below historic levels”. How is this evident? Honestly, this feels like an absolute joke? The same can of meat bought by my mother when she was my age at K5.00 is now K19.00. The present inflation level has contributed dramatically to the increase in the cost of living. Yes, the economy is now almost 3.3 times larger in real terms, but inflation has really affected purchasing power negatively over the years. He went on to say “more jobs are being created in rural areas”. I need clarification, what kind of jobs are being created, at which rural areas, and how can rural Papua New Guineans qualify for those jobs with their limited knowledge? I could not listen to more of what was being sad. It is sad to see that our leaders do not see the struggles of average Papua New Guineans.

What do you think is the best thing you can do as a young person to address issues affecting youths in your community?

Let this November remind us that our men matter: their voice, emotions and feelings matter.
