Black Body Engineering is an educational channel built for the next generation of computer and electrical engineers. Whether you're just starting out or deepening your expertise, this channel guides you through a clear, hands-on journey: from the physics of electrons to the logic of algorithms.
With every video, my goal is to pay forward what I’ve learned, breaking down complex topics into understandable, actionable insights so you can build, create, and engineer with confidence.
“True knowledge isn’t something you hoard. It’s something that should be cultivated in yourself and then passed on to benefit the whole city” extracted from Republic by Plato
"Treat AI like a calculator for engineering. When calculators arrived, mathematicians didn’t disappear they stopped doing long division by hand and started focusing on bigger math problems."

🎉 Big milestone, friends!
The new video is finally up:
“MIPS 32-Bit CPU in Logisim” 🖥️⚡
This one’s special... it’s where all the pieces we’ve been working on (ALU, registers, memory, control unit, etc.) come together into a full CPU. I even loaded a little program that sums an array, flips it around, and sums it again… and it works! 🙌
If you’ve been following the series, this is the grand VIDEO!! of the build. If you’re just hopping in, it’s also a fun way to see how digital logic turns into a working processor.
👉 Check it out here: https://youtu.be/O4W78YS3NWc
As always, I’d love to hear what you think. drop a comment if you get a chance. Thanks for being part of this journey! 💡

🚀 Next up on Black Body Engineering! 🚀
The brain of our MIPS CPU is finally here: the Control Unit!
This little beast takes instructions straight from memory and decides exactly what the rest of the CPU should do.
In this episode, we’ll:
🧠 Break down the theory behind control signals
🔧 Build the logic gate implementation in Logisim
💾 Microprogram it using a ROM for cleaner, flexible control
I’ll be honest — this one proved easier than the ALU Control Unit!!!!!!
🎥 Premiere coming soon: make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss it.

🧠 New Video Incoming!
💾 ALU Control Unit: Explained & Built from Scratch
Alright, I thought this would be a quick build...
But the ALU Control Unit had other plans 😅
Between juggling ALUOp bits, function decoding, gate-level logic, and programming the ROM, this part proved way more stubborn than I expected.
Let’s just say: "what looked like a tiny box in the datapath diagram turned into a mini boss fight."
But it’s done. And in the next video, I’ll walk you through every bit of it:
🔹 How it interprets MIPS instructions
🔹 How we wire it up in Logisim
🔹 And how we turn it into a microprogrammed ROM you can drop right into your CPU.
🔧 You won’t want to miss this one, especially if you're building your CPU along with me.
Thanks for sticking around here at Black Body Engineering.
Stay curious, keep building, and beware of small boxes with big attitudes.

In this video, I take you step-by-step through building a simple Instruction Memory and Program Counter: the first critical pieces of a functioning CPU.
💡 Whether you're new to computer architecture or reinforcing your fundamentals, this build is beginner-friendly but rooted in real engineering principles.
🛠️ What you'll learn:
How a Program Counter works and updates each clock cycle
How to create and organize Instruction Memory
How instructions flow from memory into your CPU
Real circuit implementation in Logisim
🎥 This is part of a bigger journey "From Electrons to Algorithms" so if you're into learning how computers really work, you’re in the right place.

In my latest video, I upgraded the full adder from ripple carry to Carry Lookahead Logic (CLA) and the speed difference is real... I break down how generate (G) and propagate (P) signals work, and how you can use CLA logic to design faster adders in your own CPU builds.
If you're following along with my CPU-from-scratch series, this is a key step toward building a working ALU and processor.
