TWO CENTS is an educational show about personal finance. The show is created and written by Philip Olson, Julia Lorenz-Olson, Andrew Matthews, and Katie Graham.
Hosts Philip and Julia met at UT Austin while studying theater and were married in 2007 (while still students). He was licensed as an investment advisor in 2011 and received his CFP credentials in 2015. Julia started several small businesses before transitioning to the mortgage industry. In 2015 they opened a financial planning firm dedicated to entrepreneurs and artists called THE ART OF FINANCE.
Andrew Matthews and Katie Graham (also married IRL) direct, produce edit, and animate Two Cents. Together they’ve worked on multiple films including ZERO CHARISMA and BEST WORST MOVIE. Andrew has directed other PBSDS channel shows IT’S OKAY TO BE SMART and IT’S LIT. Katie was a YouTube vlogger back in 2006 making over 100 videos under the user name K80blog.

Hello. This week, the Senate will vote on whether to eliminate previously-approved funding for public media. This would have a devastating impact on not just shows like this, but all the essential educational, local, and cultural programming that public media provides. However, changes are still possible and your support can make a difference. Visit protect.pbs.org to urge them to remove the proposal targeting public media from the package.

Welp, I did it. I passed the Series 65. WHEW! Onto the CFP now 😅.
Also, it's officially halfway through the year. Anyone else got some big goals they're on the way to reaching this year? I'd love to cheer you on/congratulate you!

Hi friends, PBS has a new special we want to tell you about. The recent fires in southern California may end up as the most expensive natural disaster in US history. PBS new film, Weathered: Inside the LA Firestorm offers an in-depth look at how it got so bad, explores how homeowners and insurance markets will be affected, and reveals what can be done in the future to avoid a repeat.
You can watch the film for free on PBS streaming platforms here to.pbs.org/LAFirestorm or on @PBSTerra https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiX9t...

As I've mentioned in an earlier post, I've been studying for my Series 65 license exam. Holy Moly. It's melting my brain. I got to the section where we get into derivative securities and I thought "If only I could find a video that could make the basics easier to understand..." 😂 Do y'all ever come back to videos that are more relevant to you now than they were in the past?
PS - I know my handwriting is awful. Reserve judgements please and thank you. 🙏

Someone turned 40 this week. I've now officially known him for half his life. He's one of a kind. Pictured holding his favorite treat, a fresh sourdough waffle filled with Tillamook ice cream. Here's to many more!

In case you didn't notice, it's 2025. I (Julia) have a challenging goal of passing the Series 65 exam aka the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam within Q1 of this year. Ugh. So many laws. So many pages in this textbook(600 to be exact). But I'm sure I'm not alone in trying something hard this year. Y'all got any stretch goals this year I can cheer you on a bit for?

16 years ago today...these two babies decided to get married. We were just two kids barely halfway to getting theater degrees. Who knew we'd be here now?! Wouldn't trade it for the world though. Thanks to all of you for being a part of our journey over the last few years. We're learning right along with you. And yes, Philip has had EVERY form of facial hair situation at this point, the 'stache is stashed...for now. If I've learned ANYTHING about marriage it's that people change. The person you're with today won't be exactly the same tomorrow or ten years from now. But as long as what really matters stays the same, it just adds to the excitement of the journey. Be good to each other y'all.

Sigh...I (Julia) am very short. 5' to be exact. Philip is 5'11".
And guess what else is short now? OUR CONTENT! 😂
That's right, we're getting into the shorts game you guys. Believe it or not, we've been making unique, short-form content for a while now that shows up on Instagram and TikTok under the @pbsds account.
But today is the day we finally bring it here!
Let us know what you think!
