howdy-hoo! if you've watch my refrigerator magnet nail art live stream (youtube.com/live/J7PMsb46zcw?feature=share) you know that i struggled with the sandwich bag method 😅. i wanted to share an update on how that went a whole +24hrs later. (long post, prepare yourself).

i was able to peel the decals off the sandwich bag, which i'll note is the sandwich bags from costco - jic anyone is curious! however, when i removed them from the plastic baggie, they were much stiffer. i could still bend them, and they wouldn't crack/snap, but they were more rigid than the ones i removed from the silicone mat that same day/time.

with that, i did try to apply one of the baggie decals to my other hand to see how the process was, and it was a little more cumbersome due to the decal being less pliable/flexible. i noticed i had to use more force to trim the excess off, unfortunately more force meant a little pain came with it because the cuticle area is sensitive for me 😅.

not only that, when it came time to 'wrap the tip' with the decal, it was extremely difficult due to it not being that flexible. i had to use a cuticle clipper to trim the excess off, and then i tried to use acetone to 'melt' the decal a little so that i can form it to my nail tips. whereas with the silicone mat decals, all i needed to do what pressed the decal down, and it would stay and make it easier for me to get a clean wrapped nail tip.

something else i noticed was the color discrepancies with the one i did on the baggie vs. the one on the silicone mat. when polish is added to a silicone mat, it lifts a little. this causes the polish to be a little further away from the magnet. compared to the plastic bag, that one didn't rise when polish was swiped on it, so it stayed on the magnet, there was no gap. with that, the lines are crisper on the decal done on the baggie. HOWEVER, there was user error at play with my silicone mat decals - i moved the magnet after i had done the first pass of polish, so when i went in with my second coat, the magnet was in a different position than where it was on the first coat. could that have something to say on why it came out different, maybe, maybe not. seems i'll have to try this method again at a later time heheheh 😉
