But don’t let that put you off! The 'off-season' is one of my favourite times to explore — fewer crowds, peaceful spots, and some incredible views all to yourself.

Did I tell you the story of meeting the REAL Santa 🎅 in Lapland last year?

We’d driven up there from the UK in the motorhome 🚐, so we were able to stay overnight (for FREE! 🙌) in the Santa Village car park. Fantastic and very much appreciated—especially given how much money I spent at that village 💸🎄!

Even better, we woke up to a note on the windscreen inviting us to visit Santa an hour before doors opened to the rest of the world 🕒. This offer is available to anyone staying at the village, whether in a motorhome/camper or one of the lodges 🏠✨.

Because I was there in October, I arrived to see THE Santa Claus 🎅 and found almost no queue. Miraculous 🙏.
Even better, I learned that you can bring your dog to meet Santa—so of course, Mac came with me! 🐾

After queuing for about 5 minutes and listening to Santa speaking several different languages (he’s fluent in 9 and passable in another 12—amazing, right?! 🤯), we were invited in to see Saint Nick by a very friendly elf 🧝.

The first thing I noticed was Santa was in his socks 🧦. The second thing I noticed was Mac staring at him with both awe and shock 😲🐕. Do dogs believe in Santa too?

We chatted for a few minutes (mostly about travel and languages—he was impressed I’d driven up there from the UK by myself 🚐💪). Then the elf invited us to pose for a photo 📸.
At which point, Santa made a weird noise.

A very weird noise.

Turns out, Mac had decided to BURROW into Santa’s beard 🤦‍♀️🎅. All you could see was his backside and a very happy tail wagging away!

Even worse, extracting him pulled Santa’s beard with him. I still don’t know if it’s real or fake, but there was a very real chance it was coming off either way! 🫣

I finally got Mac situated on my lap, and we posed for an exceedingly awkward photo 😂. Mac looks put out, and I look embarrassed, wishing we could leave right now please!

So, all in all, I’m not expecting much in my stocking this year 🧦🎁. Pretty sure Santa won’t let me or Mac off the naughty list for that one 🙈🐾. Still, I’ll keep hoping for a Chocolate Orange and some new socks.

❄️ Winter Maintenance for motorhomes and campers- what do you NEED to do?


🚐 When you're not using your motorhome or campervan for a long period of time (specially during winter!), it's really important to do some maintenance regularly to make sure things stay in good shape.
Preventative jobs like checking for damp, mould, low battery, tyre damage and many more can all save you a lot of money and frustration when you want to use your van again.

I love off-grid vanlife — wild parking, beach spots, forest nights — but one thing makes it way easier: a portable power station.

Having backup power (I use EcoFlow) means I can work remotely, stay off-grid longer, and keep everything running — laptop, phone, camera… even my dog’s cam. 💻🐾

🧐 DO YOU NEED ONE?

So, should you get an Ecoflow?

❌ Not really if:
- You mostly use campsites with hook-up
- You only use basic tech
- You’re rarely off-grid more than a night or two

✅ But they're a great investmentif:
- You work remotely
- You stay off-grid for days

I have two Ecoflows in my motorhome and charge them whilst I'm driving using an inverter connected to my van’s leisure battery — that way, I arrive with a full power bank and don’t need hook-up at all!
