As the 2025 chapter comes to a close, I'm looking back at everything I've lost, learned, experienced, and accomplished over the last year. I can confidently say I am not the person I was 12 months ago. Growth is uncomfortable, wild, and so appreciated.

I have learned and re-learned many lessons. Here are a few:

I learned that you can't sit around waiting for someone to save you. Sometimes you have to strap on your boots and save yourself. And when you do, you'll find others who are ready to walk alongside you. And suddenly, you're no longer on your own.

I learned not to panic when things get difficult and scary. Even when you've spent an hour pushing your car out of an isolated snowy ditch, only to spend the next hour trying to make it up a twisty, icy mountain road. Just breathe and work the pedals. Sure, you might slide back about 20 times before you finally make it up the hill...but you will make it up that hill.

I learned resistance is 10% markers and posterboard, and 90% community building.

I learned authenticity matters more than algorithms and analytics.

I learned shame closes hearts, but curiosity opens them.

I learned compassion starts within, and the more you give yourself, the easier it is to extend to others.

I learned privilege becomes meaningful only when used to lift others.

I learned chalk is a powerful tool. And cheapest at the end of summer.

I learned that fear in the presence of perceived authority can push people to act. And recognizing that fear is often the first step toward change.

I learned the best way to calm political anxiety is to channel it into action.

I learned truth is a tyrant's greatest fear.

I learned childhood is something to grow from, not out of.

I learned to love and trust myself so that I could extend that same love and trust to others.

And I learned that nose rings do, in fact, fly in East Tennessee.

Yesterday marked four years since my father, Jimmy, passed away. It's fitting that I spent the day painting a mural. Art is the one thing that makes me feel most connected to him. I made a video on his story a few months back, I'll link it in the comments.

My dad struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for most of his life. Right up to his death. I was a toddler when my parents divorced. I was eight when my dad signed away his parental rights. And by the time I was 12, he was no longer an active part of my life.

I didn't know my dad very well, but I know he had a kind and gentle heart, and was immensely talented. He painted murals, carved wood and made clocks out of cypress knots. I have one very fuzzy memory, hanging out with him at the car lots where he would paint the car prices on windshields. I remember being so amazed by his ability to brush the numbers on so perfectly.

Addicts are often demonized for how they handle their pain. I hope for a future society that prioritizes mental health treatment and rehabilitation instead of punishment and shame. I hope more people see addiction as an illness, not a crime. And I hope that I can honor my father's life and talents with more art and also compassion for those who were never given the resources and care needed to overcome their struggles.

If you're struggling with addiction, know that there are resources for you. Google addiction resources nearby to find them in your area. Know that you aren't alone. And that your life is worth living. You deserve help and hope, not shame.

Just a little update to let you know that I will be removing the paid membership option for this channel today. I have so much appreciated all of your generous support through memberships, but I have struggled to produce content over the last few months, because your girl is BUSY.

I am NOT leaving youtube. And I actually have a pile of episodes planned, waiting to be recorded. But since I can't stay consistent, I do not want to be charging the cards of people who might have even forgotten they are on a paid membership - I know half of my audience is neurospicy ike me and will forget about all those auto payments :p I Just had to cancel several subscriptions I haven't used for months. Just a lil ADHD tax.

You deserve a representative in Congress who understands that the job is to work for YOU, not for any president.

Aftyn Behn's opponent recently made a very different pledge. On a call with Donald Trump, he said:

“Mr. President, when I get to Congress I will back you 100%.”

That should disqualify him on the spot. A member of Congress is required to represent the people of their district and act as a check on the presidency. He is openly admitting he will not do the job he’s running for.

Aftyn Behn has a proven history of serving Tennesseans. She’s a licensed social worker and a dedicated public servant who has already delivered for her community in the Tennessee House.

In 2017, she served as the Healthcare Community Organizer for the Tennessee Justice Center.

In 2018, she led Enough is Enough TN, organizing to hold Rep David Byrd accountable after he was accused of sexually assaulting underage girls.

In office, she has stood firmly for public education, accessible healthcare, feeding hungry families, and closing corporate tax loopholes so billionaires finally pay their share.

Her opponent has already promised he will bow to Trump, even when it harms the people he is supposed to represent.
