Ana Maria Loboguerrero is Director of Adaptive and Equitable Food Systems at the @GatesFoundation. Her work brings climate, gender and nutrition together rather than treating them as separate problems. She grew up in Bogotá surrounded by women doing things women in Colombia were told they weren't supposed to do and that shaped her going forward.
In this conversation we got into what the latest SOFI report found about the 2.7 billion people who cannot afford a healthy diet, why FAO's analysis says supporting women farmers with what they need would add $1 trillion to the global economy, and the innovations Ana Maria is most optimistic about.
What if one of the most powerful solutions to some of the world's biggest challenges has been sitting in our kitchens all along?
Beans.
They may not be the most glamorous ingredient, but they have enormous potential to improve our health, reduce emissions, support farmers, strengthen food security, and help address the rising cost of living. Yet despite all of this, beans have a branding problem.
In this TEDx talk, I share why changing the way we think about beans isn't just about what's for dinner—it's about transforming our food systems. I also tell the story of Beans is How, a global movement that has brought together more than 140 organisations across 70+ countries to inspire people to eat more beans, peas, lentils, and other pulses.
This talk is ultimately about something much bigger than beans. It's about how changing narratives can change behaviours, how collaboration can create movements, and how simple, practical solutions can help tackle complex global challenges.
If the talk resonates with you, please consider sharing it with your networks. Every conversation helps us build momentum towards healthier people and a healthier planet.
Pete Henderson spent years as a BBC cameraman, filming famines he felt powerless to stop. He's now the founder of E2G FOOD, which makes nutrient-dense bars and gives them away to the people who need them.
In this conversation we got into why he believes the current aid model is fundamentally broken, how a teaspoon of spirulina can carry as much protein as a quarter of a chicken leg, and the story of the Sudanese woman he couldn't feed and why he's certain a single food bar would have saved her life.
This conversation dives into the future of food, the systems shaping what we eat, and the role each of us can play in driving change. It’s an honest, thought-provoking discussion that connects big global challenges to everyday action.
If you care about food, health, or the planet, this one’s worth your time.
This is where I explore the big questions shaping our food system: 🌍 How do we feed a growing population sustainably? 🌱 What role do culture, chefs, and communities play? ⚖️ And how do we turn global ambition into real change on the ground?
Through conversations with innovators, policymakers, farmers, and creators, Future Fork is about one thing:
👉 The choices we make today that shape the future of food.
Because we already have the knowledge, the tools, and the capacity to feed everyone. The real question is—what path do we choose?
If you care about food, climate, and the future we’re building together—this is your space.
