The women who are able to write today,
who are reading, who are progressing—
all of this is thanks to you, Savitribai Phule.
When educating girls was considered a crime, Savitribai Phule transformed books into weapons and schools into a movement. She was not only India's first female teacher but also a powerful symbol of anti-casteism, women's liberation, and social justice.
Even while enduring insults, stones, and cow dung from society, she did not stop teaching. Together with her husband, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, she opened schools for the underprivileged and girls, established shelters for widows, and initiated equality-based Satyashodhak marriages.
During the 1897 plague epidemic, she dedicated her life to serving the sick.
Her life teaches us that education is the greatest revolution.
