On this day in 1946, Muslims in Calcutta led a bloody massacre against the Hindus. It was a fully organized event. Muslim mobs were given a total free hand. Suhrawardy Government had installed Muslims on 22 / 24 top positions. Mobs were even given weapons and fuel coupons.
If not for Gopal Patha, who led a counter attack, the mobs would have ethnically cleansed Calcutta.
