Day Three – Nature, Connection, and Community at “What a Wonderful World 2025” this was a special one indeed

We attended the “What a Wonderful World 2025” Festival at the Playhouse in Northumberland, an inspiring gathering of minds passionate about rethinking and rewinding our relationship with the planet.

One of the standout voices was Alastair Driver, who spoke powerfully about rewilding Britain, igniting conversations about restoration, policy, and future possibilities. The panel discussions and Q&A sessions that followed gave us the opportunity to hear from several leading professionals in outdoor education and climate work.

But the highlight of the event and of the entire fieldtrip for me was the rare privilege of being called upon to share my thoughts on nature connection.

I shared a belief close to my heart:
“We and nature are not separate.”
A moment I won’t forget.

The festival offered more than insights, it offered connection. With ideas. With professionals. And with each other.

This entire fieldtrip has been nothing short of refreshing.
Time away from routine, immersed in nature and community.
Walking, working, researching, living, and reflecting with others has deepened my wellbeing and strengthened new skills especially in critical thinking, self-awareness, and interpersonal growth.

Grateful to our educators who guided and guarded us every step of the way.
To my cohorts, here’s to more learning, growth, and shared purpose. 💯

Day Two – Amble Adventures & Island Encounters

Our fieldtrip took us from Alnwick to Amble, diving deeper into place-based learning and digital engagement with the environment.

Armed with the Bord Waalk app, we explored Amble’s coastline, using art and sculpture as touchpoints for ecological awareness. Each installation told a story of nature, of community, of climate and we reflected on how digital tools like this can shape meaningful outdoor education.

We didn’t just use the app; we critiqued it, exploring its strengths, limitations, and educational value. Learning, after all, is about asking questions as much as finding answers.

Later, we embarked on a boat cruise to Coquet Island, where we encountered gray seals, terns, and puffins in their natural habitats. We listened to the history of the island, from its protected wildlife to its private ownership, and let it all sink in with quiet reflection.

A day of tech, texture, tide… and thoughtful learning.

Two days ago, we set out for a 5-day fieldtrip to Alnmouth, Northumberland from King's Cross Station London.

As part of our Climate Catastrophe module, we’re leaving our homes behind and heading into the raw, real-world classroom: the outdoors. From coastal explorations to field-based reflections, this trip is about more than just knowledge, it’s about experiential learning, community, and connection to place.

Expect muddy boots, deep conversations, and windswept beaches, all in the name of understanding climate impact, resilience, and the human relationship with the environment.

Nature has always had a way of teaching differently. Not louder, but deeper.

Let the learning begin.
