RIP DIOGO JOTA, AGE 28, 1998-2ND-3RD JULY 2025
Diogo Jota was a talented Portuguese footballer known for his speed, skill, and eye for goal. He began his career at Paços de Ferreira, made a name at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and then became a key player for Liverpool in the Premier League. His sharp finishing and tireless work ethic earned him praise from fans and teammates, and he also represented Portugal on the international stage.
In the weeks leading up to his death, Jota had been in the spotlight for his recent wedding and was enjoying time off with family. He had just married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso, and was spending time in Spain. Everything seemed perfect on the surface, with no signs of the tragedy to come.
Jota’s sudden death devastated the football world. On July 3, 2025, he and his brother André Silva died in a car crash in Spain after their Lamborghini veered off the road and caught fire, reportedly due to a burst tyre. The tragedy occurred just days after his wedding. Tributes poured in from around the globe, with Liverpool retiring his shirt number and the Portuguese Football Federation honoring him. He will be remembered not only for his footballing talent but also for the joy and passion he brought to the game and to fans worldwide.
