Geek Gaming Culture

Why is this channel's mantra "Geek Gaming Culture"? Because I do it all: gaming content, anime reactions, and news about all three with commentary. Instead of picking and choosing, I decided to make my channel into a mix of all three. It's truly something for everyone, and I love doing all three equally. Been gaming since I was two, and that was in 1984.

Thank you to my very wonderful friend, Luna TK, for the Chibi drawing of me that is used now for my logo. Go visit her channel, as well as the others that I support (see sidebar) as they have also helped me out in a variety of ways. They deserve it!

GREAT NEWS! I got the message that the JD Gameroom channel is now restored as of Wednesday, and as such, now the Soapbox channel is now back up, as well. Either they thought THIS channel was terminated and whatever flag they had on it to show it was was never cleared after all the copyright mess was cleared up, or there was someone else that once used the JD Shadow branding that had THEIR channel deleted, and thus, they thought I was that other person. Either way, YouTube needs to communicate better what the problems are so we can tell them if they got the wrong idea. Me having to fight to get out of them that they thought JD Gameroom was circumventing a prior channel termination when I never had ANY channels of mine terminated prior should've never happened, and me learning that TWO YEARS LATER is inexcusable. If I knew when it first happened that that's what they thought happened, I would have been able to prove them wrong in the beginning. How can you defend yourself when you don't know what you were even specifically accused of?

I've had this channel for YEARS, dating back to 2010 and maybe further in the past then that. I only decided in 2012-2013 to do original content, and I've never posted anything that I knew would be against the rules or hateful or harmful. Furthermore, I have tried to make my name as unique as possible. Thus, any other channel that has the "JD" or "Shadow" or any combination of those two names are in no way affiliated with me. Any channel that I maintain has similar branding to it. You'll know if it's one of my own channels.

However, though I do have the JD Gameroom channel back, I'm going to use GGC Arcade to post gameplay content going forward. It's easier to do it that way than to try to redirect everyone. Plus, I can use a "back-up" channel in case something like this ever happens again. I'll be able to post things to that channel without worrying of something happening. That means get ready for an influx of content onto that channel....

...including a playthrough of a certain polarizing game from last year that I've been waiting to share for some time. And yes, I am thinking of a Stellar Blade playthrough, but we'll see. I have to set up OBS again because of hard drive switching not saving my settings. Yeah, fun.

But...

So, I've been having another go-around with YouTube concerning that previously deleted gameplay channel. According to them, something in the Metroid Dread series I was posting on here to try to raise awareness about the new channel violated their TOS, but they can't provide specifics.

However, an interesting thing was told: they believed that the Gameroom channel was "circumventing" a previous termination, which I am not aware of taking place prior to that one.

The only thing I could see that they would be looking at were the copyright strikes for the Sailor Moon Crystal reactions from long ago that caused a LOT of creators issues when Toei was having a field day with them. Those were dealt with, of course, but as some of you that have been following this channel since that time might remember, this channel at one point had the dreaded three strikes on the account, meaning the account would have been terminated.

However, YouTube had a rule that if you had an outstanding and unresolved appeal to one of the strikes, then the channel could remain unless you had a fourth strike or the appeal was revoked.

Toei never answered those appeals, and the time ran out, and the videos and channel was restored. That should have been the end of it, but I think I have an idea (unless there's a channel I do not know about that someone created in my name) of what they believe based on a chat I just had with YouTube support: that THIS CHANNEL was the terminated channel, and the GAMEROOM channel was somehow trying to circumvent whatever they believe THIS CHANNEL was in trouble for.

Seemed the YouTube support people were in a hurry (did they not see I was typing when they asked "Are you there?" Don't they have the same icons I have when they are in the middle of typing something?). However, I gave them all the information. They are insisting they cannot give a specific reason. Similar to what Twitch did to Dr. Disrespect. They have way too much power to be able to hide that kind of information that would give you the necessary weapons to accurately appeal something as serious as this, where it determines whether you can make YouTube channels in the future. So I intend to fighting this, including third party legal action. I don't want to do that, but if it comes to that, I intend of exhausting all my resources into fighting this. The only other possibility I could have thought of is that someone who has a personal grudge against me or something I said is stopping at nothing to make sure I never have a peaceful moment making content. This is nerve racking to a level I cannot describe. I am now waiting to find out the "re-appeal", if you can call it that, and then I'll go from there.

Stay tuned, and I will update when I get more!

So people know:

I have a few new channels that I have made in order for people to find what they want easier, and so YouTube doesn't freak out over who I should be recommended to, because algorithm stuffs are a pain to deal with.

If you like a particular type of content I do, then you can go to those channels for specific stuff:

‪@GGCArcade‬ : Gameplay (used to be Gameroom before YouTube decided to nuke it for whatever reason they had)
‪@GGCSoapbox‬ : Opinions, which may or may not be ones you agree with necessarily, but I hope you keep an open mind.
‪@GGCTheatre‬ : Reaction content (that I plan on returning to....someday).

Note that I will still post to this channel, and I might post something in the near future about the details to these changes and why.

One thing to note: Theatre and Arcade currently has no content on it. I'm trying to find out how to present the previous content from this channel to that one in a way that is feasible, as some of the previous content, especially my reaction ones, were done when I didn't have the best setup or lighting, to say the least. So I want to make sure that people are aware that it was an earlier time. I would like to keep them as much of "as is" as possible.

Also, these channels are new, and I have to start from scratch as to getting subs up for monetization on those channels, so any help is appreciated.

Also, about that. I'm going to start deleting comments that tell me that "I will not subscribe". That's a crummy thing to tell someone as it tries to tell others not to. If you do it, it will be deleted. You don't have to agree with the views, but respecting someone isn't that hard to do, and appreciation for what content creators do and how much time it takes to get something out there that they feel is worth the time to engage with is always a good thing. To some, this is a passion that they want others to share in. Don't be that person that tries to discourage people. That is all.

A few things about some changes:

1. As you are aware, I do run a Twitter account that is JUST about new video announcements and updates, and a more personal Twitter account. I used to announce new videos on both, but I'm going to be starting to announce new videos on just the @GeekGameCulture account from here on out, so don't forget to follow that one. I want to make my personal stuff separate from the content one so, one, no one is confused, two, to get people to follow that more, and three, to make sure that Twitter doesn't pull what I've seen many more mainstream social media outlets do lately. Which leads me to:
2. I want to announce that I'm going to be trying to separate the different types of content into separate channels. I've noticed YouTube doing freak outs whenever it doesn't know what to categorize the channels as, as well as because I might talk about more heavy topics and I might have opinions that don't completely match up with what the YouTube algorithm likes (outside of the other weird changes that no one asked for because of YouTube not liking nuanced approaches to heavy topics). This will also be so people can know what they can expect. I don't want people going through a slew of "Soapbox" or "Arcade" videos to get to the one "Reaction" video they wanted to see (and by the way, to the people that want more Miraculous content...I hear you; more on what's going on there later, though YouTube being YouTube has something to do with it). I ask all of you to go and sub to those channels, too. I'll provide links to those in the days to come.
3. You might've noticed on some of my more recent videos that I mentioned Rumble. I have some channels there now, and I post select videos from here on there. But there's more: I plan on making exclusive content for those channels. Again, YouTube pulling their usual stuff and letting channels like The Young Turks get away with whatever they want yet we can't get away with even the slightest thing makes it tough, while Rumble seems to be doing everything right anymore. I've seen some people who would align with at least some left wing causes decide that YouTube is becoming more and more corporate by the day and see Rumble as a growing alternative when the latter was at first seen as a more right wing version of YouTube. Thus, you might be seeing me go more and more to Rumble than YouTube in the coming months if Rumble keeps improving and YouTube keeps showing that they give preferential treatment to people like TYT. I do not believe in absolutism, as you can tell. Stay tuned in the coming months.

That's all for now.

For those that are wondering if the entire situation with GT7's new patch was something I forgot about or ignored, don't worry. I didn't ignore it. No, I don't like it either, but I'm going to present a more balanced view - or try to - as I try to also clear up my issue with Rich's initial video in a video of my own which should drop this morning. Stay tuned for that.

I'm sorry about the lack of videos lately. The chore of moving to a new place and the difficulties that have come recently have taken a toll on my ability to do ANYTHING productive video wise.

However, one of the difficulties is something that I believe people can help in, and I didn't want to sound like I was begging for things in a video, so I'm going to do this here. During the lead up to the move, my stepdad, who suffered a mini stroke (not sure what the medical term for those are), suddenly didn't feel right. In the middle of trying to get the paperwork right to get the move started, he suffered a full on stroke, and since then, has been in a nursing home trying to recuperate and get his body back to some form of normalcy. The problems are many: the COVID restrictions disallowing any family members to be in the same room as he is, insurance issues (because why not they get in the way of things), and the general difficulties that come with a stroke, something I would never want or wish upon anyone.

But there has been a GoFundMe page set up to get him home, something that he's aching to be able to do, in time for Valentine's Day (his wedding anniversary). This has been the one thing he wants. He's been there since November of 2020, and for the longest time, until the insurance issues cleared themselves up (somewhat), rehab would not even do anything for him because they were not allowed to. The situation sucks for sure.

However, you can help by donating to the GoFundMe page. The goal is 2k, and it's getting closer and closer, but more must be done, and any little bit that one can do during this time is greatly appreciated. He's a terrific person who has not deserved this health crisis that came before him, but things work in mysterious ways. Any way you can help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think I have to say it, but please stay safe out there during this trying time. I need all of you here healthy and in one piece when we get this virus thing sorted out. We're sorry, Coronavirus, but you will not stop our positivity today!

Use common sense, don't let people scare you into thinking things that aren't true, and find an activity that gets your mind off of the spiky sphere looking thing. We got through a lot worse in one piece. We WILL get through this, too.

And even to those that I was not the best too, we need them to get through this as well. There are no enemies outside of the midget pufferfish that thinks it has direct access to our nasel cavities.

We got this! Trust me when I say: WE! GOT! THIS!

Few things:

1. No further videos until I get my voice back. The past few days have been murder for me and my voice. Every year I seem to get this small thing where I get a bunch of mucus into my throat (yeah, attractive to hear about, right), and when I go to relieve it, my throat ends up wanting to make me pay for it. So right now it sounds like I just hit puberty. So I need to clear my throat before I go to do anything (don't worry, as much as it scares people, I wasn't in any place where I was exposed to that OTHER bug...and I'm sick of hearing about it all the time as much as all of you might be).
2. Recently, I found out about how negative I've been. I need to address this with all of you at some point, either in video or later on in here, but I wanted to address the immediate consequences of it. It made me lose a good person as a friend and ally to the channel, and I regret it so much. I ended up going off about this person on Twitter, and got extremely dark. I didn't want to do that, and I should have approached the situation better than I did. I wasn't doing so well in my head at the time, I should've asked in a more private matter what the problem was, and addressed it a lot better than I did. This person has a great community and Twitch channel of their own, and it was never my intention to either get them angry at me or to put anyone into a bad headspace. I've begun combing through my twitter account to get rid of some of the horrible negativity that I had in there (this wasn't the only complaint I had about it). If anyone is willing to help me identify where I got too dark, they are free to do so but isn't required. I've been depressed about this incident like you cannot imagine, but I am sure I can resolve this in a positive way with positive results. I'm sure some of you know this person, so if you do, do NOT harass them in any way on my behalf. I want to reconcile with this person, and it would be hard to do so if they believe I sent people to bug them about this.

So yeah, I needed to give an update so people know what happened. Hope people are okay and stay safe! And stop hogging the toilet paper and stop drinking to Corona Beer! That stuff will kill you...or just get you an awful aftertaste!

My next Miraculous reaction will be next Monday. Need some extra time to edit it and me rushing to get it done will not give me the time I need to do the usual brand of humor I like doing and with the things I like to do.

But as an aside, I know people are wanting to see me and other reactors post their reactions, and that is all well and good. But I'm sure you know that my good friend and fellow reactor, Luna TK, recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. There have been a few people, though, that despite knowing this and the tribulations that come with child birth for both the mother and father, have not ceased the pestering her to get back to doing her videos. This is disrespectful on so many levels and I impore people to please not do this. I've heard of how bad it got from a few people and I know that it's one of the bad things that comes with being a YouTuber.

I am a mod on that channel and though I can't yet act on the videos in which are about episodes I've yet to watch, I can try my best to monitor that situation closely. As one might expect, the stress of people constantly dogging her about her videos is putting her stress levels OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAND! So please, I ask that all of us respect her privacy and her health at this time, and to know that once she is ready, she will return and do what I know she loves to do. After all, if you love her content (and you better), would it be better content if she was at 100% and raring to go? We all need the time to recharge, and it will give her, us, you, and the Miraculous fandom a good mark if we all wish her well and that any recovery she needs is quick. We love her work and passion. But her health comes first. The episoded won't mysteriously disappear anytime soon.

Thank you for understanding.
